talked to some friends who are into MMA over lunch. the same dudes who blew him off in the match with GSP are now saying "he matches up well against hughes, if he wins, we might be in for a long title reign"

    :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

not that i necessarily disagree, just that i've been a serra fan ever since the shonie carter, backfist-heard-round-the-world days. the noobs amuse me.

i wanna see what the betting odds for hughes vs serra will be like...i think serra will come in highly overrated...anyways he should be at 155

    sokoudjou bandwagon is worse though

    .

was a forgone conclusion he would get knocked the fuck out by GSP

my mere mention of him losing in a close decision was the subject of jeers and ridicule in the main forum

I like Serra, but I still like GSP better. He just proves that hard training can overcome natural talent

GSP trained just as hard...had nothing to do with his mental or physical preparation imo...these things just happen...9/10 times GSP wins that fight

You can't blame the Sokoudjou bandwagon though. The dude came out of nowhere and tooled two of the most respected fighters in LHW division in less than 4 minutes total.

hence me thinking an immediate rematch in july/august would be the way to go :wtc: to quell any doubt

but the hughes matchup would sell far better. all the buildup to the fight will be entertaining.

hence me hoping serra pulls out a win over hughes, to set up a rematch :x: emphasis on the word "hope," of course

You're right. One or two lucky breaks in the middle rounds, and maybe a better takedown defense, and GSP gets the decision.

Wait... nevermind. Georges got his ass beat like a bad puppy.

You need to defend your belt to get an immediate rematch. :mamoru:

Hughes fought gsp game and got that ass whopped, gsp fought serra's game(kinda)imo didnt look as good as when he fought hughes, and he lost to serra. I think serra is a good fighter but think he is not a champion. Well see in his next fight.

    I think that I'm looking forward to Serra/GSP 2 more than I am Serra/Hughes or Hughes/GSP 3.

Meh, let the commoners jump on the serra bandwagon. Hopefully enough of them will start betting on Matt if there's a rematch with GSP, so people who actually follow the sport can make some money.

It was an impressive KO, but it didn't really phase me. Everybody loses, except for Fedor. GSP sounds more motivated than ever, and he will fix the holes in his game. I like Serra, but I don't see him reigning very long. There is too much competition in the WW div.

EDIT - too bad serra's gonna be tied up in the UFC for awhile, i've always wanted to seem him fight aoki. and fight gomi in an MMA match, not just grappling.

That describes GSP perfectly. He just looks like he doubts himself too often. His genuine humility may be great for PR but it works against him when he gets into the ring.

ah, ok. a story on ultimefanatic.com has GSPs manager saying he only trained 4 weeks for serra, not his customary 8 weeks.

hence him being freaked out, i guess :dunno:

GSP lost and he made no excuses for it. Even if it was not enough training he still made no excuse and he said he was prepared.

even if GSP broke his hand and got a wrecking ball to the nards the day before, he'd still say the same thing

he's just classy like that, and selfless in the sense that he's not going to take away from his opponent's victory
