We all know the next 2 LW challengers will come from florian/maynard/penn, but after that what else is out there? Right now, Kurt Pellegrino, Jim Miller, and Tyson Griffin are all 2 quality wins away from being marketable contenders. Add sean sherk and get a little 4 man mini-tourney going to give us our next contender. Any other ideas?

sean sherk isnt in contention right now imo he needs to get some steam rolling and florian just fought for the title. It took him for ever to earn back another title shot. Penn will eventually get his rematch but I think Grey Maynard is going to be the next one up at the title.

Gray has been on a solid winning streak and he has a win over frankie edgar. I think this fight makes the most sense right now because

    1. gray has a solid win streak and has been plowing through the lw division
    2. gray beat edgar in the past
    3. he is open for a fight right now.

After that I can see penn fighting for the title again as a second title defense.

Dana just said recently he doesn't think Maynard is ready for a shot. Kenny gets his shot and likely wins the belt. Bj takes it after that.

Don't count out Dos Anjos, he looked impressive against Etim and his jits is just nasty. He'd give BJ a run for his money.

I would love to see BJ against face someone who moves like Dos Anjos or Etim. The LW division is weak when Kenny and fucking Maynard are top contenders, its no wonder BJ is sleeping

only thing i remember about dos anjos was that upper cut he took from jeremy stephens that stephens threw from mike goldberg's seat

also i was really really (really) impressed by george snuffaluffagus in his last fight. 1 or 2 more solid performances and he's right in the mix.

    Recent developments have developed.
We have to remember the game the matchmakers are playing... they dont care about the "best" fight, they want to make money. Casual fans are the "swing voters" and they wont care about edgar vs maynard because they're both no-names in the headliner world.

BJ will get the rematch because his book tour will be free publicity, plus dana has already invested a lot of PR in him and his name is big. It's an easy story to sell fans: legendary champ was upset in a really close fight, but he's getting his belt back to make this right... this saturday at the mandalay bay event center, it's UFC 118: Dramaticword.

Maynard vs Florian would make me happy but it might not happen. They might give them both "coast" fights, but then again the UFC is known for letting top level fighters languish....

The shark tank continues sorting out good fighters and spewing out contenders. I agree that George Sotoropoulos is the next big LW. Soooo slick.

    And I agree.

He looked sharp against Joe Stevenson.

I think they should unify the WEC LW roster with UFC Let whoever wins the upcoming WEC LW title fight , fight the UFC LW champ.

Why would the promoters do that?

Not "why do you want them to", but "why would THEY do that?"

They did it with the heavier weight classes because they were thin, and so they could focus their efforts on the lower weight classes.
So, again, tell me why they would do it with 155? Because what you just said doesn't apply.
Running only 3 (135, 145, 155) is cutting it close already, but dropping 155 would put the WEC in trouble.
