lol, actually you CAN build one in your backyard, the company making these "American Growler" sells kits that you can buy and then build for $7500 .

"The UV100DB, which is the same vehicle you can buy from American Growler in a kit and put together yourself for about $7,500."

Civlians pay $7,500, and one foreign country paid 30K. I am not the greatest at math, but something doesn't add up here.

This part of the article was interesting.....

"Under current military safety rules, the Growler would be barred from service in Iraq except as a utility vehicle that doesn't leave the security of a base."

I guess it meets the purpose it was intended for though, to be an easily adaptable vehicle that will fit into the Osprey, nothing more nothing less... except for being ridiculously overpriced. All the critics think Marines will be using these to patrol the streets of Baghdad or something.

You never know man, there is a lot of shit that ends up getting used for everything but its original intended purpose, and I think thats what a lot of ppl are/should be worried about.

It says.... "The Growler beat two other vehicles for the contract, Garner says."

If this thing was able to beat out two other vehicles, can you imagine how shitty the other ones must have been?

One of the requirements for the RFT was it had to carry 4 people and like 3000 poundsish of gear.

I'm left wondering if an Aussie or Brit LRPV wouldn't have done the job, 6x6 might be a bit long but a 4x4 might have done. The SAS load them up with shitloads of gear then hang a .50 or mk.19 off the roof and a trail bike off the back.

Still, not their fault nobody else bid.

I think any requisition for new vehicles should include a requirement for armor at least as good as an up-armored hummer. But it should be required to pass some extensive rollover and obstacle course tests with the armor installed before ever being approved for purchase/use.

fucking corrupt/worthless military procurement process ftl. :madfawk:
