Fedor to make an announcement on Wednesday

ANAHEIM, Calif. - Russian heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko will shed some light on his fighting future at a news conference in Anaheim on Wednesday.

The mixed martial arts star was to have featured in the main event of the Affliction "Trilogy" card at the Honda Center on Saturday. But the card was cancelled last Friday in the wake of Emelianenko's opponent, Josh (The Babyfaced Assassin) Barnett testing positive for steroids.

"Since the cancellation, there has been a great deal of speculation regarding Fedor and M-1," Vadim Finkelchtein, whose M-1 Global fight company manages the Russian, said in a statement. "On Wednesday, the media and fans will be able to hear what's going on with Fedor from the man himself."

The UFC is interested in signing Emelianenko (30-1 with one no contest), considered one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world, but only on its terms. The UFC demands exclusivity for its fighters, something the Emelianenko camp has shied away from.

UFC president Dana White has said should Emelianenko sign, he would face UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar in his first fight. He has also said the UFC now will only negotiate with the fighter himself.

Emelianenko's management noted in its news release that the Russian has already beaten five former UFC heavyweight champions. Those would be Andrei Arlovski, Tim Sylvia, Mark Coleman, Kevin Randleman and (interim champion) Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

    Same shit, different pile

Vadim Finkelfuck will come out and say their meeting with UFC was unsuccessful because the terms that the UFC made weren't good. They'll continue to say how they want to co-promote when it makes NO FUCKING SENSE for UFC to allow M-1 to piggyback off them.

M-1 only has 1 asset and that is Fedor. M-1 is nothing without Fedor and they know it. That's why they're pushing so hard for co-promotion. They bring absolutely nothing in terms of benefits for the UFC as an organization.

Fedor owns a certain percentage of M-1. Its success I'm sure is in his own interests also, just a point.

    Fedor Emelianenko, UFC finalizing deal

    2:24 PM, July 28, 2009
[IMG] A long-awaited agreement between the Ultimate Fighting Championship and the man considered the world's best mixed martial arts fighter, Fedor Emelianenko, is expected to be announced by UFC President Dana White on Friday, a source with information about the negotiations told The Times today.
The source, who asked not to be identified because he's not authorized to speak publicly about the dealings, called negotiations between the UFC and Fedor "very civil" just days after Fedor's scheduled Affliction Trilogy fight Saturday against Josh Barnett was canceled.
Affliction wound up folding its MMA promotion activities and announced an apparel deal to sponsor UFC.
Now, Fedor, who has previously fought in organizations including PRIDE Fighting Championships in Japan, Bodog Fight and Affliction, is crossing over to the world's most successful MMA fighting organization, as well.
With a 30-1 record that includes victories over former UFC heavyweight champions Tim Sylvia, Andrei Arlovski and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Emelianenko would likely get an immediate shot at reigning UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar.
The source said officials were discussing details on the public announcement of the deal, which in the past has been complicated by Emelianenko's resistance to accept UFC's standard six-fight contract and his unwillingness to surrender some merchandising and marketing revenues.
But this month White said he was optimistic he could bring Emelianenko aboard, and his confidence was well-placed. The UFC declined to elaborate on Friday's scheduled announcement.
