how much of a bend in your knees? how far apart are your feet? what angle are your hips at the bottom of the movement? push your hips backward?

Shoulder width stance, slight bend of the knee, feet angled slightly out, keep a hard arch in your back. Initiate the movement by kicking the hips back then lower your back. Maintain a lower back arch throughout. When you lose your arch, come up.

I've been doing them suspended and it seems to torch my back more than not suspending them

I do them like an RDL-- I just focus on keeping my back arched and go down until I feel a deep stretch in my hamstrings... for me that point is reached by bending my legs a bit... feels better than straight-legging them for me.

I think the problem with suspended is that most people just turn it into a half squat.

See: almost every powerlifting video on the net using chain susp GM's.

So, they don't not work obviously, but if you are going for hamstring/glute tie in type work then use something else on top of those if yours turn into half squats.

yep. and they are usually done after squats so that movement is still fresh. i've stopped by self and took a break when they start to turn into half squats.

Honestly I'll switch back to doing them with the SSB or regular BB this week. I just wanted to try suspending them and see if I notice anything....I didnt
