But I want a Garand like a fat kid wants cake. I'm now (well, when they receive my letter in a week or so) a member of the Garand Collectors Association because apparently being an NRA member doesn't count towards their group membership, and tomorrow I have to go and beg the range official at the extremely expensive indoor pistol range to fill out my familiarity sheet. :ugh2:

The CMP does allow walk in purchases, right? I'm only about an hour from the Anniston AL store and I'd like to go get it myself rather than bullshitting with an FFL transfer and all that.

Um, lol aggravating? Gimme a fucking break, Show me another place in the world that you can buy a 100% USGI Garand for as little as $495, 246 rounds of 30.06 ammo for $67

Cry me a fucking river. Wahhhhh you have to fill out some paperwork and get a range officer to sign off. Would you rather do buy an import stamped Blue Sky import Garand at a gunshow or store for $1000?

Oh and unless you have a C&R be prepared to add 8% sales tax to everything you buy in store. I suppose you're gonna bitch about that as well?

BTW, are you talking about The Ammo Dump?

$25 for a club membership, $10 for a notary if you even have to pay at all, $0.42 for a postage stamp...yeah, that's pretty steep, when you're getting a genuine GI garand for $495, versus at least $600 at a gunshow, no FFL needed, ammo for the cheapest rate going....

    Gee, such a hassle.

I do not think that you have to use a FFL when you are buying from CMP, I have never done it so I could be wrong, that's just my understanding.

If you buy in the store and take the shit with you, you pay the 8% sales tax. Iif you have your C&R you can go to the store and pick one out and have them ship it to your house, this avoids paying the sales tax and ends up being cheaper.

I have been looking for a demilitarized M1 Garand like we had in boot camp for a few months now.

Fellow Coastie found and bought one for like $80... everything I find is like $250+ with a welded barrel and no firing pin. :/

you don't even need a C&R to have them ship it to you. They're exempted from that by federal law, no matter what you don't need to have an FFL receive it--and they do the NICS check before they ship.

wow no shit? I still want to go down there for the hell of it anyway. I'm an AL resident so they'll probably stick me with sales tax either way.

It's the federal government. They'll ship guns however they want.

I am fairly certain that you do not need a FFL 01 or 03 for CMP at all.

    from thier website

Why has the CMP gone to 100% NICS checks?

    1. For the customer it further simplifies the purchase application process and reduces the amount of paper the customer has to copy and send to CMP.
    2. For the CMP it standardizes the process and allow us to automate the background check function. We no longer have to check each application against the ATF list to see if whatever the customer provided is acceptable (or grand fathered) or not acceptable.
    3. We do not have to concern ourselves that the copy of the FFL, C&R, or CCW (often blurred and hard to read) may be forged or completely bogus. Remember that even a picture ID has little value when the person sending it in is not standing in front of us.

and if you read their forums they repeatedly state you do not need an FFL at all.

Sorry if I misread you incorrectly, just wanted to be clear with everyone CMP is exempt from an FFL and can ship to your door.
