Anyone see this movie yet? My g/f and I just saw it last night. It wasn't too bad. The visuals were pretty awesome. I mean, the Necromongers vessels were cool-looking, the way they had that black misty stuff driving them. The story was pretty interesting too.

    OK, no spoiler tag anymore??

I liked it despite the critics reviews... Most critics don't like/understand Sci-fi movies, so they just slap a bad label on it...

    I especially liked the ending

it was alot longer and better than i expected it to be, my take on it is this:
    - legitimate sci-fi movie with some cheesy vin diesel lines thrown in

the design and production is surprisingly good and detailed, reminded me of Dune, or some sort of sci-fi/fantasy hybrid, seemed like it came from a book or something

    go see it

I wish I could live-action-photoshop vin diesel out of the movie. I bet I'd enjoy it a lot more. I don't like vehicles for "the new action star, ________!!!!" And I hate how ever "new action star, _______!!!!!" feels the need to copy Schwarzenegger's little tradition of witty one-liners.

    :ugh:

I'll probably see it when it comes out on DVD. I just talked myself out of liking it, because of diesel.

The movie did come from a book and the first movie to "The Chronicles of Riddick " was the movie "Pitch Black" which vin diesel was also in...and if i am not mistaken there is one other book that hasn't been made into a movie yet.

The Chronicles of Riddick was not based on a book. Neither was Pitch Black. David Twohy (the director) made Pitch Black based on a script two other dudes wrote. On the Pitch Black DVD, Twohy talks about how a couple of years after Pitch Black was released, the studio came to him and asked if he wanted to create a sequel to Pitch Black centered around Riddick.

BTW, is this the book you were referring to??

It was a cool movie, just not a "great" sci fi movie. Worth seeing for sure, but I don't think I'll buy the DVD unless there's a 3rd movie that's really good making the trilogy worth owning.
I think Vin did a find job, but they watered down the charactor a lot and the basic plot was a little far fetched. It didn't REALLY tie to Riddick, they had to kind of force the connection to him. That'll make sense when you see it. The prison & merc parts were the best, I wish it had all centered around that type of plot instead.

Are screenplay novelizations Foster's only gig? Does he actually write, or just translate movies onto paper?

I'd like to see another attempt, maybe they'll get it right. I don't want another movie just to milk it though. Bring it back down to a more believable level, maybe focus on the prisons and the merc's instead of such a big scope this one had.

Wasn't it directed by the same person who did Pitch Black?

Me thinks that huge budget went to his head.

I decided to wait for DVD. I really liked Pitch Black, but I'm not too sure about CoR. I did just pick up the video game for my Xbox. It's pretty cool.

It is the same director. Looks like he did the screenplay of some other guys' story for Pitch Black, but actually wrote Chronicles. That's probably the problem.

He's written other blockbusters such as:

    WATERWORLD (ugh)
    Terminal Velocity
    Warlock

Also The Arrival and Imposter, which I actually liked a lot. He should have taken more time and written something more focused and not a plot with such a large scale.

I didn't really think much of it, at first. Just from watching the previews it looked pretty dull and uninteresting. It turned out to be pretty good when I actually went and saw it, though.
