I cannot for the life of me figure out WTF is going on. Yesterday my entire school files directory *disappeared*. In a panic, I downloaded recovery software (thinking I had deleted it somehow) which found absolutely nothing. Then, out of nowhere, Finder was able to locate the folder again. I had a shortcut in my Finder bar previously, and it had disappeared when the directory disappeared. So, when I "discovered" it again, I drug it over to the bar again.

Now, this morning, it's gone again. Finder cannot locate it at all.

I'm not worried about the data because I have a good backup at home, but WTF is going on?

    Time to upgrade to Leopard??

If there are details about my setup that would be helpful, I'll do what I can.

Yeah, yeah, I know. I'm really afraid of the file copy corruption because I use an external extensively (hehe).

But is there really no explanation for this? I'll try and force it to happen tonight.

I restored the directory from backup...now I'm just trying to make it disappear again. This is bizarre.
