So I go into a local camera shop to hold the 5D as I am thinking of switching over. The prices are going down on these puppies and I figure before buying one, I want to see if it is as comfortable to hold as the Nikons are.

Not soon after gripping it, I went :hsugh:. People paid $3k for this? :squint: Now I know what Canonites have been complaining about.
I've seen the pictures taken with this camera in the right hands so I guess the plasticky feel is something worth looking over? :ugh2: Nah. No way. :nono: Paying below $2k for a plastic camera is reasonable. But above that, the least you should have is weather sealing.

I want a full frame so I only have two choices at this point:
    1. Wait for the Canon 6D
    2. Sell my current Nikons and put it towards a Nikon D3

Cause no matter how much the prices drop on the 5D, it will still feel cheap. :o

its not like its a rebel. use to take my d30 and 10d skiing all the time or out on hikes here in the northwest and never had any problems. Now I take my 1 series swimming in the caribbean :o

I'm a Nikon user, but the 5D/1Ds do NOT feel cheap in my hands. It's only the Rebel that feels like shit.

But the Nikon UI > Canon UI still. IMO.

the 5D makes great pictures in the hands of a good photographer... (*)(*) for example...

however the 5D is pretty horrible in some applictions, such as shooting action sports photography.

the controls and overall feel are better than the rebel, but not as good as the 1DmkIII

canon needs to get rid of the programmed shooting mode dial on the 5D body.

there is a difference between the feel of the 5D and 1D, both use magnesium alloys.

The 1D has a better feel still.

think of the ff cameras as a different line, the 5d is the 20d of ff.

Why not wait for Nikon's 5D equivalent. It's only a matter of time before they come out with a FF sensor in a D300 body.

I think Nikon's very comfortable with the D300 and D3 competitive overlap with the Canon line-up, but that would be the shit.

hmm, lets see, it took them 4 years to match the 1d2, the 5d has only been out 2 years, so Im betting you'll be waiting a while :mamoru:
