so i just read news that borderlands (a game that didn't really appeal to me :sad2:) sold over 2mil now, which reminded me of this article (link above) that i read a few days ago

as logical and "duh" as it sounds, sales do not measure the greatness of a game, but is sadly what the companies backing them are looking at. dragon age is hovering around 1mil, and a unique game like mirrors edge is even less, despite being out longer. thankfully, it appears both games will eventually have sequels

hopefully the publishers will continue to listen to its fans, despite smaller fanbases and continue to provide quality titles for the sake of gaming passion

    that is all :hs:

Borderlands is amazing and deserves the sales.

Mirror's Edge sucked in a very unique way.

I almost make it a point to track down these under the radar games. Probably the same feeling people get when they think they discovered some relatively unheard of new band or something. VC was considered a flop at first but there was a resurgence in sales middle of this year through word of mouth and I think Sega considers it a viable franchise now. Really surprised Mirrors Edge is getting a sequel, it bombed so hard considering how much backing and publicity EA put into it. I'm glad to see EA isn't retreating back into their shell when it comes to taking risks like I thought they would.

Sad to see the good wii games getting overlooked. Madworld and especially Muramasa are the only reasons I would consider getting a wii, but the audience just isn't there on the system for them it seems.

It's unfortunate, up until the last generation if a game was good it eventually sold well. There are very few examples I can think of of criminally overlooked games from the 8,16, and 32 bit era. Gamers usually spread the word with each other and games could resurge in popularity months later.

Now it's like every month there's a good game falling through the cracks which is weird because everyone is more connected than ever before.

Demon Souls and Valkyria Chronicles are definately awesome, sadly non-mainstream RPGs like FF usually don't sell that well. Most of Atlus games are like that though, I'm pretty sure they know how to make money off of it.

Demon's Souls had no publicity at all and was hardly stocked anywhere. The week it came out, most store employees would give you a funny look if you asked for it... and they're surprised it didn't sell well?

I bought Demon's Soul when the Best Buy deal came out and surprisingly, they had that game next to the cashiers.

    No it didn't.

I'm glad they tried something new.

Unfortunately the game was just too short with little replay value (The DLC is a joke and a wasted opportunity)
People are too scared to try new things and dismiss games which aren't a simple FPS/3rd Person Shooter/Driving game

It was a great demonstration of the concept which they will hopefully improve on greatly for the sequel

    Boom Blox was very good.

Madworld I didn't really get into, nice art/style but not my sort of game.

Tekken 6 I bought but for me I get bored quickly but then I knew this before I bought it and just wanted a fighting game for when friends are over.

Haven't got Borderlands or Dead Space though.

    Those numbers are so small...

makes me wonder how these game companies can even stay in business

Trust me, I played and really wanted to like Mirror's Edge.

The only good thing about Mirror's Edge was the sound design. The environments were sterile and repetitive. The story was lame. The gameplay, while extremely unique, got tired very quickly. The 'combat' was atrocious.

I haven't played Mirror's Edge but EA purposely made the combat somewhat "unappealing" because it's not supposed to be a combat oriented game. they wanted gamers to use skill and technique over just button masher brawls.

I was aware of that going into the game. Disarming the enemies was the way to handle combat and was handled by 'press X when the screen flashes'.

The game really needed another six months to a year of development.

Whoever did the sound for the game, and Dead Space as well, deserves a bunch of :bowdown::bowdown: these guys.
