why not just learn how to search the web. I have webroot because my school forces us to to use the inet. I scan monthly and it will occasionally find some tracker cookie. Other than that I just surf correctly.

SpywareBlaster to block various active x exploits. (immunize) - Free
Spybot S&D to scan, and also block active x exploits. (immunize) - Free

Adaware, you already have. - Free

    Zonealarm firewall. - Free

Plus I use PestPatrol which is not free, but is the best overall scanner I've used.

    And also, what mdanial said.

I have gone through more program than you can count to get rid of trojans and spyware on the computers at work. I have not only settled with Spy Sweeper but am an authorized reseller now. Look up Virusburster. SS is the only program I've seen that'll remove it. AVG is what I use for AV and they're going full registration in January.

At home it's different. I just watch where I go and what I download but have the two on here anyway.

2 years ago Spybot and Ad-Aware were good together. They're adequate at best nowdays.

We need a sticky in this. Its already been discussed and AVG is still going to be free. The only thing that's changing is that since v7.5 has been released, updates for v7.1 will be stopped in January. Go to free.grisoft.com and download 7.5.

spybot and adaware are what I use most often. When I'm fixing an end users issue and neither of those work ewido has saved my ass on more than one occasion. AVG has bought them out recently though...same great product

webroot spysweeper is a very comprehensive program, but who wants to pay a yearly subscription for anti-virus and anti-spy?

I've had Trend Micro's PC-cillin on my pc for a year now, and I haven't had one single problem. It doesn't hog system resources like Norton, and it's only 50 bucks for firewall, antivirus, antispyware, etc.

I also use SiteAdvisor, and practice (mostly) safe browsing.

I really don't see how people get viruses/spyware all the time. I have not had a virus on my computer for over 5 years, and I get the occasional spyware but nothing that takes over the whole computer. And I leave my comp on 24/7. On the other hand I constantly have friends that ask me to fix their computers every couple of months because it is loaded with viruses and spyware. I just don't get it. :dunno: But I like adware and spybot for getting rid of the stuff.

I use Ad-aware, Spybot, and Ewido. I usually get rid of everything between the three.

All you need is FireFox + Spysweeper and I use Nod32. Should do the trick. I have not gotta spyware or a virus.

Well, i can tell you of an example a bit stupid, but it happened... took my laptop to school, connected it to the network, and 2 hours later we all got an e-mail intructing us to remove our computers from the network and then to run a anti-virus program because the network was inffected with a worm.:eek3:

The windows firewall would have stopped that.
