One of those bored out of my mind threads..

Run 5k (3.1 miles) in 30 minutes or less
Bench / Pull up / Dip bodyweight 8 times
    Squat 1.5x bw 1 time
    Dead 2x bw 1 time

agree? what do you think should indicate what the average fitness level should be?

OK, let's say I am an average gym rat.

    I should:

    bench 300 pounds
    squat 400 pounds
    deadlift 500 pounds

I have been going to the gym (big Gold's gym) religiously for a while. I have seen probably 10 guys bench more than 300, I have never seen a legit squat of more than 300 pounds, and I have never seen anyone (besides me) deadlift more than 315.

I think a reasonably fit person should be able to do 5k in much less than 30 min. I used to do it in that time with very little training.

No, because too much is based on form/technique/flexibility rather than general "fitness"

Given 4-6 weeks to work on any of those goals
    Possibly 5k in 25 min.
And the rest sounds about right.

Though taking into consideration that the average fitness person would probably have a better bench relative to their squats and deads.

i have yet to buy a good belt so i havent deadlifted or squatted over 225 just as a precaution but i can rep those as well

    list is good

there are so many more things I think are good indicators of what "average fitness" could mean but...

    - you could add swimming a short distance to that list

    - you could include some form of timed plank to test overall stability of the low back/abdominals

    - find a way to test unilateral strength with a split squat or lunge somehow

    - no love for the strict overhead press? hand bike??

I think he is saying the average person does bench press 5 times a week and couldn't find the squat rack in their own gym
