Can't get the vid to work, but I went to a IPF meet a few months ago and noticed the same thing. A high percentage of attempts were mixed, 1 red, 2 reds, etc. Then I witnessed a lot of people not even high parallel on squats but made their lifts? it was wack.

Looked close to me. Check the bar height when he begins the lift and where he ends. Not a very clean lift for sure. I guess what's making me give him a little more room on this is after I passed about 650, somtiems I'd end up holding the bar at lockout for 3-6 seconds (feels a lot longer). I asked my training partner why, and he said he didn't think I was locked out. I was -I could never hold that weight for that long if I wasn't locked out- but due to deflection in my arms, and into the bench, it just didn't look the same as the lighter weights. I can only assume it is moreso for the heaviest bench of all time.

Look, I like Kennelly, but I'm not going to defend a lift that I don't think was good. This, with my knowledge, looks pretty close to me. *shrug* I wasn't there, but I don't think it's nearly as bad as the old Mike Miller 1200 vid that went around.

    Just giving a different perspective.

Well any time you're setting new WR's you're going to come under scrutiny.

It didn't look fully locked out to me but its hard to say exactly. and I'm a huge kennelly sackrider :p

Oh, I agree. They can't get all fired up just b/c it's a world record and let shit fly.

i completely disagree, i dont think it was close at all. where he failed was where the shirts support stopped. one of his arms was even drifting down

here is a pic showing the exact moment where the judge called to rack:

*shrug* If I were judge I probably would have waited longer for a rack call...

yes but the point is is that is not locked out. im sorry man, bench shirts have heavily skewed what actually locked out is. locked out by any feds definition is not a half bent arm. even if he didnt drift, that is NOT a locked out bench... looks to be about 2-3" away from locked out.

It does look to be like that but it isn't. Stop the vid when he takes his handoff and you'll see it's closer than it looks. Whether he was really locked out or not... I don't know.

We can argue this forever. I'm not debating what it looks like. I offered my perspective to what it might be. You can disagree all you want; it's not personal to me. I just offered a suggestion where maybe it wasn't the end of the world wrt powerlifting judging.

i understand what youre saying, and PL judging will always be PL judging. PL judging has just about never been good throughout the history of the sport. the main reason for this IMO is that its a poor sport money wise and thus there is just about no professionalism in it. judging will always lack when it is judged by friends of lifters, or lifters themselves

either way, the fact that this will now hit the record books as the "all time WR" is sad and a reflection of what i said above, IMO.

This will probably sound ignorant but why are bench shirts and all that other pl gear allowed? I know it's about lifting maximal weight but what's the point if you need all this shit to help you through it?

because otherwise there'd be no meets. there is 0 money in the sport, no real companies are interested in sponsoring it because there isnt much of a fan base outside of the lifters if at all.. the gear manufacturers pay for the meets.

PL should not allow records to be broken officially unless it's at a national level meet where judging should be at its all time best. thats how it works in SM.. it doesnt matter what you do at dick blows contest, if its not at a national meet under the supervision of the head guy at ASC/NAS it won't count as a record.

its probably true, and its evident in most huge benches nowadays. very few achieve a true lockout anymore with the weights shirts allow
