    Why mess with perfection?

They did the typical Nissan upgrades: Big ass engine with class leading power, improved interior, price not too far removed from the last generation.

And to top it off, it has all the same off-road goodies as the Pathfinder and Nismo Frontier: Bilsteins, locking diff, hill descent control, hill start assist.

    :werd:

If you're just going to be cruising on the streets with the occasional off-concrete jaunt, the Pathy is more than enough. Especially with the capable Off-Road package.

But if you need to spend more time off-concrete in deeper shit, doing dirtier shit, the Xterra is what you need.

And it's no longer based on the beyond ancient hardbody platform. It's based on the Titan's F-Alpha platform.

2000-2001 > any other model year's exterior and interior.

The new model has a better engine and some improvements, but the first gen was so much better. Another reason why I'm not upgrading. Just hit 75k on mine and no problems yet

She had over a year to learn that they were making a 2nd generation. Sounds like she was owned by not doing her research.

Haven't seen any Nissans do well offroad. Practically towed my brother in law all night in his Frontier on some trails and he high tailed it out of town in the morning.

Still, I love Xterra's. Probably the best SUV for your money out there, one of the VERY few actually worth the price tag on it.

S Off-road has locking rear diff, hill descent control, hill start assist, Bilstein off-road shocks, and some other stuff related to off-roading.

The SE doesn't have any of that.

    two questions:
    1. is it bigger than the previous one?
    2. have they worked out the suspension/handling issues that they're notorious for? :hs:

I'm assuming the upgraded engine makes it a bit more gutsy.. I understand they're rather sluggish..

bilstein shocks are a big help. Have you ridden in one? The handling is fine.

The engine will give it more power, but theres already more than enough unless you pulling trailors all the time. The 5 speed does help though, I would have paid for a stick, but its actually cheeper.

265 hp is great. What's the torque figure? That's more important. I like the look of the current one's more though.

Basically if you are stopped on a hill, it will hold the brake for you while you move your foot from the brake to the accelerator so you won't roll backwards.

torque is ~280. Don't know about this one, but the original engine had 200 but 90% available at only 1500 rpms. Great for offroading
