My chest has always been weak, but I finally got it to at least expand into my shoulders, but i still have very little real mass. Everyone mocked it unmerciful. I used to work out focusing on getting my numbers up, and it was suggested that thats really not nearly as important as just working on getting a good controlled contraction on the target muscle group. I cut bb benchpress out of my routine.

I got a lot of idea from the stickied routine (pur's) and from the information on best chest activation excercises.

I lowered the number of excercises i was doing and increased the volume on the excercises i kept on doing. I also changed the way i do the excercises as I now focus solely on getting the strongest possible contraction on the target muscle. I can easily "handle" heavier weight then Ive been doing but im still spent using the lighter weights using the new way.

    So now I do

incline BB's (heavy crunch at the top, all the way down, nice and wide) 4x ~8

    decline BB's
    4x8

standing cable fly's (set to target upper chest)
    4x8

    weighted dips
    3x7

then mix it up with one last changeup excercise. (pullovers, weighted pushups, cable variations, etc)

Ive been making a concious effort to sleep more and have been getting 7 hours or so most night instead of my usual 5. No alcohol + making SURE that my social life doesnt get in the way of eating something.

I went to a 4 on 3 rest. I am loving this so much. I used to take my rest days evenly spread out over the week, and worked out 5 days a week. I was getting desperate for imrpovement and progress and was physically burnt out all the time. I'd have some muscle soreness 7 days later :ugh:. now i take friday-sat-sun completely off and am not having the recovery issues I was having. It should be noted that I also went from cutting to eating again, so that might be a huge part of why I was always so run down before, but I feel like having 3 straight days off is really working for me.
