Went down to the pontiac dealer to take a look at the 04s and finally test drive one. They had about 7 on the lot (good sign for final december clearance) 5 manuals and 2 autos.

Anyways, to get to the good stuff. The cars do look good. Yes, i can't get over the whole grand am thing, but its really not that bad. the back is definitely ok, but the front is kinda shitty. The autocross grills and a nice lip will definitely help a lot, but the monaro front is infinitely better

the interior is REALLY where its at. it definitely feels like an expensive car inside. Aside from a few cheap pontiac bits that made it in, i like it almost as much as the e46 m3 i drove a few days ago. Black exterior + red leather = killer. Oh and the seats are fucking awesome. And the fact that its pretty loaded with the power seats, cd changer, steering stereo controls, etc.

    the drive:

the car definitely has fucking torque. LOTS of it. TONS of it. really docile and civilized when you are tooling around in traffic, but just hit it and it goes like a rocket. amazingly it feels as fast as a c5 or an m3, although i know that its not. but definitely a car that can be driven daily, provide a comfy and luxurious ride, and be a beast when you step on it.

Oh and i wanted to testdrive a stang, but the only GT the local dealer had was on the showroom floor :(

This is going to be a LOT tougher than i thought.. :sad2:

if it looked just a little more aggressive or different.. it wouldn't even be a question..

even the pontiac salesman said he wished they would have been a little more ballsy with the exterior.

got to drive the GT stang in auto, was pretty tight. waiting for a manual they have coming in to test drive that. they're only getting 4 more in for the rest of the year, then they're kicking up production january. better be worth the wait :noes:

how is the interior in the stang? :dunno:

also, since both cars are just as fast stock (2004 GTO vs. 2005 Stang GT) i wonder which one reacts better to boltons..

its a very hard choice between the two, and im not even bringing other options into it yet.

i like GTO interior and options better, but mustang looks better..

in a year everyone is going to have one though (a stang) while a gto is more exclusive..

    too hard..

oh and there is probably going to be an all new GTO in 07 :dunno:

you mean the 400hp 2005 GTO??

its nice, but the price difference between buying a 2004 now or a 2005 when it comes out is going to be over $5000..

for $5000, you can get a shitload of stuff done to the 2004. Hell, longtubes are $899 and give 40-50hp supposedly with the computer reflash.. :sad2:

If you liked it about like the M3, I'd drop the M3 due to the price difference. Not really a car I'd compare with a GTO and Mustang anyway, different class.
The 3 most interesting cars on the road right now are the GTO, Mustang GT and Magnum RT. What's the sticker on the GTO stick shift? Is it still ~$35k?

i would, but only light mods..

enough to get about 50 more horses, if i wanted anything more, it would go on the bottle...

ideally, a high 12s car would be great.

2004 GTO can be had for about $26K now easily (email dealers and see) and people have gotten as low as $24K in some cases. Thats for a loaded car with leather and all the shit.. the only option is 6spd for $700...

The Mustang interior is alright, seats had that slippery feel, like you werent being cradled by the GTO seats.... the back seats had negative legroom, as in less then none. :o

The styling is nice, but retro so it lacks character of its own.

There is no Pontiac bits in this car, period. It's 100% pure Holden concieved, even the front.

And yes, it owns. But I'm holding out for 6 liters and 400 horses worth of LS2 grunt. :big grin:

I think I'm going to wait for next fall when they start clearing out the 05s, then pick one up.

The interior is GM's best next to the C6.

i liked the red leather interior more than the c5 :o

it feels like a luxury car inside, for sure....

and yeah, you could probably get a good deal on an 05 in a year.. but i dont wanna wait :hsd:

    my choices right now:

    Legacy GT
    Mazda RX8
    Mustang GT
    GTO
2002 M3 :mamoru: (also $15K more than any other ones)

    ehhh

GTOs do not have weak rear ends, they go 10s and 11s regularly in Australia with no problems.

The headlights are WAY too mellow. Overall I think the front end is too laid back, it needs to look mean.

My uncle is the lead mechanic at a VERY large dealership, he currently has 3 GTO's on lifts awaiting new rear ends....all with less than 1000 miles on them.

2 have been on the lift for over 6 weeks.

    Could be a funny coincidence I suppose.:dunno:

    damn

so you think getting about 50-60 horses from boltons is realistic? like longtubes and a few more mods?

just wanna keep up with the m3s and the 2005s :hs:
