hopefully someone can help me out!

95 Maxima SE with ~124,000 miles. The car still runs strong, but about a month ago the car would shudder/shake back and forth due to a misfire in cylinder 1. The shaking, along with my check engine light went away after about a week (although the shaking occassionally comes back when I first start my car, but would go away within a minute or two), but I'm still getting terrible mileage (~21 highway, ~14 street, though I have gotten as low as 9 MPG :ugh ). I'm clueless as to what exactly is wrong or could be wrong with it and what needs to be replaced. If anyone has any idea what it could be, please help me out! Even a list of things that could possibly be the culprit would be :bigthumb:

Heres a list of anything engine related that has been replaced on the car since I bought it about 2 years ago:
    Spark plugs
    Knock Sensor
    Battery
    Starter
    Alternator

fuel injectors, get the fuel system cleaned. that causes shakes/shudders.

I think your car may have obdii. Hook a scanner up to it and get readings when it shakes.

I did when it first started to happen. The computer read that cylinder 1 was misfiring, and all the mechanic told me was that with that kind of reading, it could be several different things. The thing is, I am still getting bad mileage without the shaking (which, I assume means that the cylinder isnt misfiring anymore. correct me if I'm wrong :hs: ) The mechanic said something about replacing the spark plug wiring kit, but I dont get how that would have anything to do with my mileage.

Might try replacing the O2 sensor..it should be changed at every tune up, but is alway forgotten.

If Cyl 1 is misfirng, move that coil to Cyl 3 and see if the misfire moves with it.

If it does, you know you have a bad coil, which I think you do.

    check your spark,
check compression, (maybe you blew the seal?)
    check fuel delivery..

The thing is, the car doesnt misfire anymore (I dont think :hs: ) The car is back to running smooth, but the gas mileage is still suffering. And the spark plugs were replaced a year and a half ago, so that SHOULDNT :squint: be the problem.

Just because you replaced the spark plugs doesn't mean you don't have a bad coil. Like has been said, check coil, plug wires, and fuel injectors. The computer may be compensating for the problem, which could be why it's no longer shuddering, but still giving bad milage.
