Hey ya'll. I am going to be making the move to Knoxville, TN or thereabouts (louisville, maryville, etc.) and I have been looking at their gun laws so I know what to expect when I get there. Here, in IL I can not get a ccw permit. From what I have been reading on the NRA site it seems that I can get one there. I have a few questions and I wanted to get answers from someone who has some experience there, rather than just an online source. By the time I move I will be 21, don't know if that matters.

    - What do I have to do to register my shotgun when I get down there?
    - I am getting a handgun from my parents for my 21st birthday (since I will be legally able to own one here in IL) what do I need to do once I get there with it?
    - How do I go about applying for my ccw? I have a FOID card here if that matters.
    - Any good ranges/shooting stores in the area?

    TIA guys :wavey:

I'm guessing having to "register" a gun is state to state...? :dunno:

    I never registered my shotgun..

Used to live in chicago, all firearms are requred to be registered there. I'm guessing mine's still registered since I got it before we moved.

    1. dont have to register your gun
    2. once you get here, you go shoot it
    3. to apply for your carry permit (we're an open or concealed carry state) you have to take a department of safety approved handgun permit class. i just asked around at some gun shops as to which ones around here met the requirements. take the class, pass the shooting test, fill out paperwork, have background check and fingerprints done, pay money, wait until its approved. mine took exactly 3 weeks from the day of getting fingerprinted to having my permit in the mailbox
    4. dont know of any ranges up there, i'm about 1.5 hours away
