I think it would make a good company car, and I'll be doing quite a bit of travel between my office and the new branch we are opening up in a few months. If I can pick one up for 20k or so, I may be able to squeeze one out of my boss as a company car.

    :x:

Prove to me it's a good or bad idea...

with employee pricing, a new one may be better... considering miles and warranty.

I just bought my 2004 GTO about a month ago for 22k with 1,500 miles. It is an awesome car that is comfortable for long trips. The LS1 never fails to provide decent power :)

The 2005 GTO no longer qualifies for the employee discount program.

They no longer offer the employee price on it, and it wasn't that cheap with it anyways.

The LS1 GTOs may be one of the best used car deals out there right now and would make a great company car. I looked at an 2004 automatic with 1,000 miles on it for $24k in Fargo. Still looked, smelled, and drove like it was brand new.

Still thinking of a Charger R/T for yourself psykosis?

If I got a Charger, it would have to be an SRT-8, and I'm not in the $$$ position for that right now. If I was to get a non-SRT-8 car, it would be a Magnum with awd and the hemi. However, if I talk to my boss and offer up $1/hr towards a $22k GTO, I might swing that, since I will be doing tech support for our Traverse City location as well as traveling often to Grand Rapids to open and support our Grand Rapids brance in October. I don't much feel like putting those miles on my car (mostly because I think it would die), and this is a decent solution I think.

If I get more serious about this, which I may next week, I may wanna chat with you a bit. Is there anything to look for or look out for when looking at one of the 04 models?

Apparently the early 2004's have the more reliable LS1. There is a silver stamped plate when you open the hood that says when it was built. Check the struts for tire rubbing. Make sure the power seats move forward and back smoothly.

Listen for gear whine at 60+mph.

Check the oil level when you first see the car. Some LS1s like to burn oil. Ask them about the car to see if they know anything about it.

The car still has a factory warranty so nothing is really that big of a deal since its free to have fixed.

The only thing that makes the GTO a shitty freeway car is the paint on the front bumper. Its pretty crappy and will pick up the "sandblasted" look quickly.

I bought an 04 left over for dirt with 18's and will just make it faster by adding small cam and a stall with a catback. Last couple i have worked on went 12.2-12.5

If the company is footing the bill for gas, why not? ;)

It handles potholes pretty good, might want to stick with the factory wheels if your dealing with lots of neglected roads.
