Unfortunately, with almost anything computer-related... the cheaper you go, the crappier it gets. Most burners will come with software that works perfectly fine... the main thing to worry about is the burner itself. Some good brands to look out for are Plextor/TDK/Sony/Yamaha, but I don't know about less than $100.

This one will serve you just fine. In fact, pretty much any Lite-On or Sony CD-RW drive will be just fine, and they're all really cheap nowdays.

For software, Nero seems good :dunno:

You can get the Liteon 52x burner for free (after rebates) at several places - it works great. And it comes with Nreo Express which is the watered down version of the best burning software out there.

My friend got a burner for $20 after rebates and has had it for over a year and it has worked perfectly. I just picked up one for $20 and expect the same. The thing is, many many brands source the entire drive except the bezel from LiteOn and a few other manufacturers. So you're usually buying a decent drive.

Plextor is generally considered to be the best quality burner

Lite-on is basically a rebadged plextor, and they are very inexpensive
    get the Lite-on
