I'm thinking about starting a glamour website which involves nudes and I want to have a paid members area. :naughty:

I know that not all hosts will allow adult content, so what are good hosts to use? Also what are good companies that provide password protection, age verification, and payment processing for adult sites?

Password protection and age verification is part of the site coding itself.

Payment processing, there's 11ty billion sites out there, all depends what type of payments you want to take.

be sure to check your host's TOS, they'll suspend your account if you have material that is not permitted (after they copy it for their "records" :hsugh:)

We allow for adult websites on our servers. Check out our OT deals under Member Services.

Are there third party services who can provide me with the password protection piece? I'd rather have a vendor deal with this.

The authentication is done server-side. Having it done externally would be very difficult (and a huge security issue). You can get plenty of pre-made authentication scripts that you just incorporate into your website, but it will still be done locally and need to be sorted out by you (or your web dev team).

Why? It doesn't make any sense, logically or technically.

You don't WANT to outsource authentication. 1, I don't think anyone actually OFFERS that kind of service due to what's involved, and 2, you WANT your authentication done locally so you can keep track of your customer records, statistics, and not have to rely on an outside service for something that will be used so much.

Just get one of the 11ty billion authentication scripts available on the web via any of the PHP resource sites and incorporate it into whatever site you make. That way YOU control what people can access, and how they access it.

I also honestly think you might be a bit over your head unless you plan on just throwing money at someone and letting them do everything for you. In which case, throw money at them and let THEM sort out the authentication.

ccbill.com will manage your password file when people sign up.

If you're looking to prevent people from 'hacking' your site, look at proxypass.com

Any other companies other than ccbill you ?

Only reason why I want a vendor handling this is to protect myself from the headaches if the site gets hacked. With this being taken care of I can focus on getting content for the site itself.

Where can you check if it's legal to run a porn site in the state you're in? I did a google search and it didn't really give me a lot.

Wouldnt say never but tough to start up. Running an adult site is not what I want to do anymore due to the fact that there are tons of galleries that are free and try and promote a sites content by offering some of it for free then you have someone who archives your site and hosts it elsewhere as a site rip :mamoru: Then you have all your legal crap to worry about you can't keep a minor out no matter what you do always a way around it. lotta red tape

I'm pretty sure he got out of doing time. It looks like the dead pictures taken from Iraq didn't exactly help his cause though.

But yea, check your local laws.

Are you going to buy content from someone who's already done it, or seek out the content yourself? IE., find the models, photograph them, ???, profit?

If you're going to get the models yourself.. well, I hope you've got a TON of capital to start up with.

    Also, go to http://gfy.com
adult webmaster forum. people like clubjenna's team, lightspeed, etc., are there. they know what's up. :)

ccbill is really the industry standard, there are others, but most customers prefer ccbill

some of the others do not process visa and that will kill your site, i seen a few sites die from not allowing visas on the site

Look into a Content management System called SiteDepth, a payment processing place called Verotel (form login so it's pretty much not crackable) and NEVER work directly with models. It's best to buy your content because "models" are fucking nuts.

I am running one as of last week, not an actual website but a referral type website, where someone provides all the content, I think i actually bought a turnkey website so the whole thing was provided for me I just have to market it to search engines etc. Not sure if it will make money.

The tax thing confuses me a little bit but I was told adsense type programs can be claimed as income tax so I think i will just pay the income tax on all the cheques (if i ever receive any). I dont live in the states and setting up a company just to pay a fraction less tax seems like a waste of time.

    Don't use paypal.

I would say google checkout also but i'm not sure what thier policy is.

Also, some webhosts (usually those with fantastico) allow for credit card processing plugins.

    Also, 1shoppingcart.com is good too.
