 Pretty much. They really aren't the greatest when they are stock. You can find much better guns but 10/22s are cheap and you can build it however you want.

I just bought a bunch of shit for mine in a Tactical Innovations group buy :o

sorry, i dont have any pics :dunno:

if you know the barrel you want make sure the stock you're going to get fits - most after market barrels are .920" in diameter and won't fit on the standard stocks.

as for internals, new hammer, trigger, mag release, bolt hold open thingy, and buffer are always nice :dunno:

if you're going to be bench shooting a 20" barrel is fine, but if its for hunting you might want something smaller (lighter)

I know... I was just being an ass. :mamoru:

I would put my guess on the receiver being the part you keep. Everything else is great for changing out - stock, barrel, internals, etc. The receiver you can keep.

    The reciever.

You can actually buy an aftermarket reciever and use all non-ruger parts to build a 10/22 if you so choose. But, most folks opt to just buy the whole Ruger 10/22 and hack it up from there since the aftermarket recievers are generally more expensive than a whole gun.

On my list of guns to own someday are a black, suppressed, and tacticooled-out 10/22, and a flashy, exotic benchrest 10/22 converted to run .17hm2.

The stock bolt hold sucks balls... you can either buy a new one or modify the stock one with a dremel and five minutes.

www.rimfirecentral.com for all you ever wanted to know about 10/22's.

by the time you fix up a new 10/22, you could have bought a really nice savage.

I would first put on an extended mag release and automatic bolt release (or make one.

After that decided what the gun will be for. This is where barrel length and stock type are important. I have a 22" bull barrel (rfc gm special edt) and a thumbhole stock. It is an absolute tackdriver, but shooting without a bipod or steadyrest is hard. When i build another it will probably have a houge rubber stock and a 16" fluted bull barrel, for more general purpose.

Bolt buffer for sure. Best $5 I ever spent on that gun.

my honest suggestion is to hand your wallet over to a close friend for about 3 weeks, read read read, then once you have an idea, then ask for your wallet back, you buy a whole bunch of shit now you'll be upset w/ it since you rushed
