    hello OT!

i dont know much about american muscle, or how reliable they are, but i came across this car
    [IMG]

1999, pontiac grand prix GTP. its supercharged, and has 100K on it.

    i have a few questions

    1) is it worth 10K
    2) is it reliable? what kind of problems should i expect
    3) insurance... what should i be expecting on a clean record?
    4) gas consumption
    5) anything else you want to say

    thanks guys

Probadly worth more like 7,500- Im guessing the owner is trying to make money off what he's done to it.

Engine is very reliable, the 3.8 V6 is good for the life of the car.
Gas is probadly like 17-27, but it's premium gas

Not AFAIK. It would have to be a custom job... very, very expensive, and I don't believe that GM has a front-drive manual tranny that can handle the torque. That's why they went with the auto in the first place.

100K is a lot of miles. You should be able to find a good example for 10 grand with fewer miles than that. If you decide to mod, first things should be an intake, exhaust, and blower pulley. With spending less than say $500 on those mods, you'll be deep into the 14's. :)

    BTW, I own a 2004 GTP Comp-G.

ah nice... well that pre-modded one is pretty sexy IMO. however i would rather get something that i could upgrade and know what has happened to it .

    Step #1: Goto ClubGP.com
Step #2: Review Quarter Mile Times.
Step #3: Insert Foot in Mouth.

I have a hell of a lot of respect for a car that can be modded into the low 13's for less than $2000 in mods. Plus, you can get your groceries in it. Insurance is cheap. The motor is reliable as death and taxes. And they're really cheap to pick up used.

I think they're just about the best commuter car that you can get. You can always have the rear-drive monster to play with on the weekends, but for those of us that live in the real world, it's nice to have a car that just works, and still has enough power to get out of its own way.

    :ugh:

Stop defending FWD you idiot! Why do you think that RWD is so bad for daily driving?

1/4 mile times don't mean shit. Spinning your front tires on the street when you want to get off the line quickly is embarrassing. Experience driving daily a car that you can put the tail out at any time under power, just for fun, and then go back to dring a FWD 'musclecar' and its all wrong. All wrong. Everyday.

That being said, for $10k it seems like a decent value. But I'd rather put that $10k towards an LS1 F-Body. It works as a grocery-getter just fine. In fact, try moving a 32" TV in the GTP. Funny, the F-body can pull it off.

AND it runs low 13s --- with NO mods. :fawk:

I thought that only the WS6 and the SS go low 13's. Those cost well over $10k, at least where I live. "Normal" LS1 F-Bodies run high-13s on average.

Hehehe... hey man, I know about the practicality thing. I used to own a Firebird before I bought the GP. And just recently I bought my fiancee a Z28 Convertible. So I know what you're talking about.

However, you have to admit that if you're younger (and it sounds like he is), then insurance is a major factor. Hell, I'm 22 and I got a quote for me on an LS1 F-body. $3200/yr. :o. That's a lot of money for someone just out of college. I only pay just a hair over $1000/yr for the GP. And keep in mind that I have a 100% clean driving record.

And I never said that RWD was bad for daily driving. Hell, I live in CA and can get away with RWD year-round! However, if you're living in a place with snow for a good portion of the year, it's nice to have a FWD car with a bunch of weight on the wheels. Makes traction a little easier in those conditions.

And finally, look at it this way: F-body's are really freakin' cool. I would like to have one to play with, but not put a ton of miles on it. Makes it a little more special to drive. :bigthumb:

everyone knows that 1/4 mile times are the only measure of a vehicles performance :ugh: :ugh: :ugh:

is the supercharger "whistle" really loud? im not too fond of the noise -_-... ill be checking out this car this weekend.

i would think the f-body would be slightly higher on the insurance end, however; i love how they look.

    thanks for all the input.

When you add a pulley and cold air slightly yes there is a audible whine.

Get over the Wrong Wheel Drive shit..

I pull off 1.9-2.0 60' (with stock tires) on my wrong wheel drive 12 second GTP. Suits me fine.

That car looks nearly identical to my car... What are the mods on it... stock tranny??? Id stay away from that.

But if so... free up the exhaust and get decent plugs and a cold air intake and your gas mileage will increase greatly..

I currently get aroun 20-21 city and 28-29 highway and i am heavily modded.

 This retard is at it again. Ladies and gentlemen, his car doesn't run 12's, unless putting half a carlength on a stock mustang gt @100mph = 12's.

I'd rather own a 14-second RWD car than a 12-second Wrong wheel drive car. :hs:

When considering a car for performance reasons and general fun-to-drive quotient.

because we all know drag racing is te final word.

I'd look for a different car than the one originally posted. Mileage is too high for the price.

this is a common misconception. the ss and ws6 are suspension and appearance mod options. sometimes they have a different catback system. there is no "normal" ls1. they are all the same except for the 01 and 02 models which have the ls6 intake manifold that gives it about 10 more hp. but for the most part they all run the same, low 13's for 6 spd and mid to high for auto's.
