I've always loved the styling, but thought it would be a hard choice to make over a TSX.

Now, though, an '03-'-04 can be had for like $15k and the acura hasn't even come close to dropping that much in price.

Obviously I'm talking about the older 2.0t models, and not that cool new turbo 6 :(

The low price would make slightly higher regular maintanence costs not such a big deal, but I do want something reliable.

    What experiences do you have?

    they are FWD
have a sporty suspension so are pretty fun to drive
realiability wise I didn't hear anything positive or negative
have enough power to get out of hteir own way.
somewhat luxurious interior, but have a sporty style as well.

Not a bad car for the price

hmm. . finding a lot of nice ones in my area for very cheap.
despite it being FWD, they're too cheap to pass up :o

Seems like a pretty good deal for a decently fun, great looking daily driver.

May share the platform with the Malibu, but that's the only downside to that car. A guy I worked with had one, and it was pretty damn nice.

The '03's and up are the GM ones. 99-02 9-3 FTW!

Saab owners love to quote the fact that Saab make planes :coolugh:
    And how "ergonomic" they are.

But if you're looking for a car which is an involving drive rather than making you feel you are at 30,000' and ergonomically superior to others look elsewhere.

As stated above they are GM and strongly draw on Opel hardware, then dress it up in pilots clothes.

Their high power FWD models have serious wheelspin and torque steer issues.

    Severely over-rated.

    Cheers

WTF are you talking about? :ugh2:

sure they're owned by GM, but isn't just about every brand gobbled up by one of the big automakers? someone named "audidude" should know better considering most audi's are "dressed up" VW's.

the torque steer problem is gone, wheelspin hasn't been a problem for a while since the power in 1st & 2nd is limited (any saab driver will tell you 3rd gear is where the fun is) and traction control became standard. here's what you do get though:

a comfy ride with plenty of room, nice ammenities, better-than-average performance, sharp looking exterior, and an engine that responds pretty well to some cheap mods if you're looking to tinker. oh yeah, and not every a-hole and their brother has one. it's also one of, if not the safest car on the road, gets really good gas mileage, and will get you through the winters (if you have them) with no troubles at all. what other car gives you that in the same price range?

After being told my numerous people and looking at carsurvey.com .. they seem to be very hit and miss with reliability.

I always loved the new style of the 9-3's and wanted to get one in a few years, but was always turned off on how everyone said they had issues. Can anyone spread some justice on this?

Friend of mine had his mom's company car 2004 Saab 9-3 Aero for a few months and I fell in love with the looks and ride.

reliability wise, they're great if they've been maintained... had the oil changed religiously, etc... if they haven't, well, then you'll run into problems

Road & Track magazine just did an owner's poll of them. It asked all kinds of questions about reliabilty, service, parts, etc. Go pick up this months magazine and give it a read. The article is towards the back an kind of hard to find, but it's in there. It's the Road & Track with the Z06, GT, F430, Viper, Gallardo, and 911 on the cover.

    they're nice cars.

I'd rather buy one from the "other" swedish company (volvo).

1994+ saab are all GM too...

they're fine...good mix of luxury, sport, and economy. can't beat a used one for the money (partly because the brand new ones depreciate so much :mamoru: )

The newer Saabs have a lot of torque-steer, from what I understand. If you can get a model with a limited-slip differential, it will help a lot with that.

The 2006s are supposed to have that fixed. Look at any reviews of them.
