Don't just vote in the Poll, tell me why you use one or the other. I have a laptop with Intel ProSet Wireless card, and it turns out it hates half of these protocols with a vengeance.

    WPA2-Mixed
    WPA-Enterprise

    WEP

WPA2 AES PSK + MAC address filter.

Wired is most secure, but obviously it requires a socket to plug into.

    i use just wpa2 AES

i don't bother with mac filter because if i want someone on my network i have to add their mac to do so

For awhile there I was only using MAC address filtering. I just stopped broadcasting my SSID. Then I changed my SSID, kept MAC address filtering and tried WPA2 but my wife's laptop hated it and ran super slow. I was forced to use WEP with her.

with WPA/2/any options, mac filter and no broadcast ssid is a waste of the time it took to configure it

    none for a long time

just configured WPA2-personal because someone was parked in my neighbor's driveway, leeching my wireless. it was funny watching him get pissed when I disconnected him.

I'm using WPA2-personal because that's the highest all my equipment will allow. if something woudln't connect, I'd start working my way down the list.

wpa2 personal at home. I don't care enough to bother with mac address filtering.

What made me think of this thread was the local news cast here in the Twin Cities, driving around and looking for open LAN's. When they'd find one they'd hack to see what the person was viewing and then knock on the door. It got awkward when they said they couldn't show what site the individual was browsing later in the news cast.

I really should have allowed this thread to have multiple votes allowed...

adding mac filtering with wpa2 is like adding aflimsy little slide chain lock on a steel door that's already got 4 deadbolts. it's a waste of time.

they wouldn't have been able to show the film they took of me, either, because of the words I'd have been using ........ that's like shoving a camera of someone's shoulder in a convenient store line and asking them "why are you buying that Penthouse magazine?" (actually it's worse)

news crew is lucky they didn't get the shit kicked out of them.
