Despite all the bullshit politics, I serve cause some people truly do appreciate it and because those that served before me had it much harder than I did. Least I can do is put up with some bullshit ... lay some rounds downrage at the fuckers in Iraq and be grateful I have it good.

    I might do another 4.

    GOGOGOOGOGOGOGo!!!

    :wavey:

Edit: I know its kinda late but its still Memorial Day in the fucking states so make it happen!!! :squint:

As gay as this is gonna sound, I serve for the 4 people who have been standing outside Travis AFB for the last 3 days with American flags and the signs that say "Thank You"

For the men and women who died in World War II protecting this country from evil. They fought and gave their lives protecting the constitution, and their efforts shouldn't go unappreciated.

I fight for every American who has died making this country great from beginning to end, but World War II really stands out in my mind.

It is what my family does. My Grandfather served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. My father served 3 tours in Vietnam. Every male on both sides of my family as far out as 2nd cousins has served in the Army back to the Revolutionary War. I belong in uniform.

I did it to change my life, and make a difference.....I kinda wish I would have joined the Army or got a more combat orientened job. When I see jets flying it doesn't really give me pride that I put jet fuel in them. I think the most prideful I've ever been was a few weeks ago, I went off base to eat Sushi for lunch and this old american lady said "Thanks for what you're doing for our country"

I heard this quote today at a Memorial service:

"The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional as to how they perceive the Veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their country."

    - George Washington, 1789.

First time around: It was my ticket out into the world. It gave me a start towards a career that I wouldn't have had if I had stayed where I was. It gave me a way to continue the military life I had experienced from childhood as a dependant.

This time around: I tell people that it's all about supporting my sons, and I believe that. But a friend of mine (a cop) recently called me on it when I said that to someone at a party. He said "Bullshit - that's what you tell people that don't know better. Between you and me, though, we know that what you are really doing is getting your ass in the fight. We know that you feel you missed out when you were in before, because you were in the Air Force and because nobody wanted to fight the US in the late 70's/early 80's."

My friend is right. I spent all that time on Active Duty and nobody wanted to fight us. Now that I'm almost too old to do anything, up pops 11tybillion targets. So...yeah...I did go back in to support my sons but I also went back in for purely personal and selfish reasons.

Honestly? There is a clause somewhere, with requirements for my trust fund. by age 25 either grad from a 4 year college (tried that, didn't work out), or serve 4 years in the military with an honorable record. And as long as I don't fuck up within the next 2 weeks, everything should be fine.
