MMA Technique of the day #3 - oma plata into toe hold.

    This one is a chain of 2 submissions - the oma plata and toe hold. This is also a bit more on the "intermediate" level so I am assuming that you have the basics down fairly well.

    oma plata setup

    1) start with the opponent in your guard and break his base down by parting his hands from your stomach/chest/hips if he has them there and pulling him down with your legs.

    2) While holding on to his head with one hand, reach over his back, unhook your legs and pull your leg (shin) with the other hand. Your right arm should be grabbing your left left or vice versa.

    3) with your other leg that you aren't grabbing, place the foot on his hip.

    4) assuming you were grabbing your grabbing your left leg, let go of his head with your left hand and bring his right hand to the mat by securing a tight overhook.

    5) from here push off with your other foot, keep pulling your leg, and finally figure for your legs to go for the oma plata. Most people who are experienced WILL try and roll forward here. If not just finish them with the lock.

    into the toe hold.

    6) As you do the oma plata, hook your left arm over his leg so that he won't tangle his legs around your head when he rolls (if he does roll that is...)

    7) as soon as he rolls and you are in side mount, pull your arm out and grab the toes on his closest ankle with your left hand, and apply the toe hold.

    8) While doing it, stand up and rotate your body in the direction you are cranking.

    it's just an omapalata into a toehold, if you know how to do those two sumbissions, and i'm pretty sure you do, you'll be fine
