I like it, but the white balance seems a little off (yellowish). Also, I would have framed it a little more to the left so as not to cut off his paw.

well, lets get the first thing out of the way...

Learn how to adjust your white balance!

WB is off and it looks like a snap shot. Try taking the shot outside.

Maybe doing a well done B&W conversion could work? :dunno:

Don't shoot at 1/5 a sec @ ISO 200. bump the ISO up or use a flash.

the slowest most people can hand hold a shot is about 1/60th of a second.

I tried the WB fix, hard to do w/ a jpeg... so I desaturated and tried a different crop.

    What camera are you using?

Either way, try and select a WB that'll give you 'natural' colors. Not too orange, not too blue. Try setting it on 2500 kelvin and shooting inside, seeing how it works. Adjust accordingly as you go.

You may also have a mixture of different colour temperatures in the room. Try using a flash next time.

Yeah, better though the eye is just a tad too close to the edge of the frame for my liking.

It depends on the angle. To eliminate the shadow completly you would have to use a second light as fill, or bounce/fill the area under puppah's chin.

It's not as easy as "Buy DSLR. Take awesome photos".

(not that I am implying that that was your intention)

You may also just be getting a colour caste to your images. My 20D shoots a little cool. So does my 30D. Try shooting in RAW and adjusting to see if you can clear up the caste.

:werd: and any movement even then can cause terrible motion blur.
