I got a tattoo on Saturday (so 5 days ago) and it scabbed up, most of it flaked off. I heard that's normal, but my girlfriend's never scabbed up. Also it's still alittle tender, how long intill it doesn't feel like a sunburn anymore?

Some people scab, others do not. I'm unsure of why though.

I was just a little worried, since it was my first tattoo :)

Nothing to worry about. Just keep putting unscented lotion on it and you should be fine. Are you still washing with antibacterial soap?

Yes and bacatracine(SP?) and lotion. 3-4 times a day.

I would lay off the bacitracine and only use soap and regular lotion. I recommend lubriderm unscented.

I don't recommend ever using bacitracin.

I use Aveeno Moisturizer with Colloidal Oatmeal, works great!

is it scabbing or just flaking. From what i've heard, scabbing is bad news, but flaking's normal

Well flaking I guess. It's not really scabs, just flakes of what seems the tattoo colors.

Its perfectly normal. Just don't peel it...let it come off naturally.

I recommend adding no foreign substances until it no longer is painful to rub. Then lather it with lotion at your descretion.

All of mine scabbed a little. And the bigger the tattoo - the longer it was sore. :)

If it is truly scabbed, whatever you do DON'T pick it off.... allow it to fall off on it's own, and be careful about clothing sticking to it.

I had a LITTLE BITTY SCAB on the one on my ankle, and it stuck to my sock one day.... and lifted the ink right out. It's a SMALL spot, but I know it's there..... just be careful!

nothing to be worried about. scabbing is normal. depends on the sensitivity of the person's skin.

my skins really sensitive and my tattoos like medium to large and it did scab on some areas. and peeled like a mother. and its like over a year old and still is a bright color (i took real good care of it) you need to lay off washing it.. wash it once a day. and dont put too much lotion on it but be sure it stays moisturized. but dont do too much to it. itll do damage.

and try to avoid laying on it. :hsd:

You really shouldn't have a problem with scabbing if you keep it moist. If it scabs badly it can scar up and you'll have to be touched up. you don't want it to be wet but a few applications each day would be a good idea. If it touches clothing you'll need to apply it more often b/c the shirt will soak up the A&D.
