A&P Taping up lenses?

Discussion in 'Lifestyle' started by LowLikeWhoaF150, Dec 31, 2006.

  1. I'm thinking about taping up my 70-200 with some black painters tape. I hate the attention this lens attracts. The white is too flashy and not very stealth mode. Has anyone ever done this or ever hear of anyone else doing this? Also, could leaving painters tape on there for an extended period damage the lens at all? Thanks to all who reply.

use one of the covers that nature peeps put on for extra protection/camo. $10-20 @ B&H

  4. I don't know, walking around with suit and tie with a camo lens might attract more attention :o

  5. what do you mean :dunno:

Do they make a white one so my 70-200 VR looks like a Canon?

I dont understand what difference it makes if your in a suit and tie walking around with an slr anyway... if you were doing a tomash sure :dunno:

The only think to be worried about is being able to get any adhesive of afterwards. oh,, and it might look funny if you try to tape the whole thing :dunno:

Practice your handholding technique, sell the 70-200, buy 80-200.

If you were comfortable dismantling the lens you could get stipped and powder coated in any colour you want

  18. :hs: I guess in different environments you would want the attention so people don't mess with you, but when you're in an environment where you're trying to capture candids and keep a low profile it's hard with a "telescope" attached to your camera. This is why I am not looking for a perminant solution.

Because other peole walk around with suit and ties also, and I don't understand the tomash reference. Yea that worries me also, I don't want my lens to be all sticky when I remove the tape. :wtc: Not going to tape the whole thing, just want to tape off as much white as possible.

Sounds like a good idea but I'm not comfortable dismantling my equipment and i'm not looking for a perminant solution. :wiggle:

I meant if you are jumping over fences looking for little girls at night, sure. But if your already in a suit and tie walking around with an slr I dont think having a black lens will be any less intimidating.

  22. oh i gotcha. :)
