My zoom ring on my tamron 17-50 F2.8 quit working. It'd go past their stops, and was crunchy sounding. The gears definately broke or something...so I sent it back in for warranty work since it's only 7 months old (6 year warranty) and they claimed "shock damage." However, I never dropped the damn thing.

Now they're asking for $300 in repairs. Goddamn.

Recommendations on what to do? Can I argue their claim of 'shock' damage? Poor build quality FTL.

I'm not very good at squeaking :o

I'll be making a call today though, at the very least. What should I say? I don't want my words to fall on deaf ears.

be nice first. express how disappointed you are, you really love the lens. have never dropped it, you really had hoped that they would be such a stand up company and back up their warranty. if that doesnt get you anywhere ask for someone higher and tell the same story.

dont get pissy, they will just hang up on you. or at least they should.

So I squeeked, and they changed the fix from "major" to "minor" and reduced the price to $155. Down from the original $300. Oh well. Better then nothing.

Never dropped it -- it developed its problem on its own. I did try to use it once after it broke, which may have made problems worse.

Sucks either way. Maybe I gotta bad example, but man do I miss the images it took right now...
