Went to the fun shop yesterday looking for a Kahr P9...they were sold out, but had a used P45. I never really considered .45 before and don't know much about it. The guy said it wouldn't kick as bad as .40? Is .45 too much bullet for a gun that size? What does wmd think? Gun is for ccw.

(yes, i know, i keep making these kahr threads, but i have a hard time impulse buying)

never shot or handled a kahr, but my .40 p99 is more harsh then my G30.

.45 is more of a 'push,' and very pleasant to shoot. .40 is a little bit more snappy but by no means uncomfortable to shoot.

Does .45 still have adequate 'stopping' power after say going through a car window?

No, 45 bounces right off of everything. Go with 9mm instead.

If you need stopping power you should buy nothing less than .50 cal, anything else wont put a scratch on em :mamoru:

.45 is an awesome round, some people (like myself) would argue that there are other rounds out there that aren't as big (allowing higher capacity) that will get the job done just as easily.

I personally think the .40 is all around the best caliber. It's quick, decent weight and allows mid-range capacity.

45 ammo is also considerably more expensive. Its making me want to sell my 1911 and get a 9mm of some type for range shooting.

.45acp is the best self defense round IMO. Allows for good follow up shots because of the lower recoil plus a bigger bullet for more damage. Not sure about a .45 Kahr however.

.45 ACP is a great round. And when I buy a 1911 it will naturally be in .45 ACP.

However, if I was buying my first gun, I would get a Glock 17 (this is after actually having purchased a Glock 22, for my first handgun)
