As my first gun. I'll be getting my CHL soon after getting the pistol... I've shot a few different pistols, mostly glocks... (27, 30, 17, 19), and a springfield XD or two... so far the 19 has fit my hand the best, and seems to be the perfect size. And yes, I've read the sticky :eek4:

    .

A Glock 19 is probably one of the best beginner guns out there.

WTF are you going to do with wimpy Glock 19? Snub nose S&W .500 is the only way to go for concealed carry.

not a bad gun, i just dont like how it feels, though im not big on any of the polymer pistols, too light, though thats what you want for carry. I just like the SA trigger a bit better too. The Glocks are great and if they fit you, might as well, its just not my style.

from what I read with that article, it was 1 person that was "injured". Furthermore, they admit that statistics are few and far between on similar failures in other models. They mention that many 1911's are prone to this failure, as well. They also say that a new barrel and factory-ammo dramaticaly reduces failure, as most failures were with reloaded ammo, with a hot charge, and the stock barrel.

I'd still take a glock over the xD

Depending on budget though, I'd probably pickup a well used G19 and pick up a .22 to complement it (even the Glock conversion kit would work) just to train with.

All this has been said, and yet, no one has stated the truth yet.

    Hk > glock > xd.

Don't be a sissy, carry a full sized gun. Hk USP .45 :run:

Having said that, I love my glock 17, and am just waiting to convince myself that I really need to go pick up that glock 26 i've had my eyes on, since it is a little tiring carrying around a fullsize.

This is why I'm choosing the 9mm over the .40 cal. I've already researched it. I have 2 friends w/ the .40s but they have replaced the barrels and done some other work to them.

And I believe I actually saw on glock's websites that the 19 will accept a 17 round magazine? And then 31 rounder from thje glock 18 too but who the hell wants that crap hanging out the bottom of the grip?

You have echoed many of my thoughts from researching this topic.

    Who wants it sticking out?

I know I do. Because it's a hell of a good time when you're at the range. Sure it takes a little longer to load but it is worth it.

Would I recommend the 31rd mag from a g18 for concealed carry, no.
But I would recommend that anyone that can use it get one, if for no other reason than the looks of people at the range when you unleash that thing. (side note, I should say, my range only allows 3 rounds total in the weapon for all rifles, no limit for rounds in a pistol. So, when the ar15 guys are getting salty about only firing three rounds and having to reload, those of us with the 31 round pistols are busy enjoying our range time.)

Seriously, though, to the thread starter. Get the 19, fuck what the haters are saying, once their xd rusts maybe they'll see the error in their ways.

Typical XD ignorance... XD's have parkerized finishes the same as most other guns do, which with proper mainteance will not have rusting problems anymore than you will any other type of "blued" gun

then the typical xD buyer is not as educated in proper gun-maitenance... Because I sure hear a lot more complaining about the xD rust problem than any other gun.

Its the same finish as many guns its a parkerized finish aka Blued. XD only had rust problems early on and your information is likely outdated since your are biased against them its easy to use outdated over inflated numbers to try to bash something else.
