Hi guys. I am really new to photography. I troll here often to get ideas and have realized a lot of people here have so much experience that I finally have to ask a question.

My boss gave me $2000 to spend on equipment. He wants me to shoot landscape/buildings/people dining and shopping, etc. Basically a shopping center and whatnot.

My question is, what body and lens should I get (all new, not used)? I was thinking about the 40D since there's the $200 rebate but that would leave me with about $900 for a lens. Maybe I could get the XSi.

    Thanks!

Too bad you have to buy new. a 5D with a 17-40 would be perfect for that.

i think medium format is a good idea here. 2 grand will buy a pretty complete used kit of your choice. i suggest a mamiya 6 or 7 kit. for the outdoor shots you cant beat fuji velvia 50.
edit it depends what hes wanting to do with the photos

40D, Tamron 17-50 and a 430EX w/ strobist kit should do everything you need.... Just so long as you both realize gear doesn't create the great photos, skill does.

I wouldn't need anything longer than 50mm for this particular use?

Depends on how close you can get... If you need longer get a used 40d, Tamron 17-50 and a Canon 70-200 instead of the strobist kit. 50mm is good for me whenever I'm indoors... I use a longer lens occasionally but that's usually a studio setup where I can get 20ft or so away.

if you live in a state where you do have tax for one of those sites.. post in here. there are several alternative sites that were only $1-3 different in price.. that's a lot less than tax would be on most items.

So it seems like 17-50 or 17-55 seems a good fit for my needs. Other than the Tamron, what others should I look for? Thanks!
