Not entirely true, if you go to a good enough school.. The teaching concepts about HOW to use programming concepts > * rather then being self taught and not knowing about the techniques.

My teacher now knows every language imaginable... he's all about concepts over practice which i guess is a good thing. The people in the class, however, know nothing. I think that about 50% of the people will be dropping the class tonight. Here's my first homework assignment:

    i took those in highschool.

The html coding is pretty much a joke. Its hilarious because most of the time, well atleast in my case; the instructor was doing everything incorrectly.

I was never really the snobby type, so i just didnt really say anything. Not like anyone in the class was really interested in building their own websites :hsugh:

    I could get 100% on that. :o

My roommate is a senior with a marketing degree(emphasis on internet marketing) and his books were written while I was in middle school. He tells me shit about their classes and I'm like ":hsugh: really? that was the new hotness in '99".

    oh well

Just reading your first post and the mention of php... It just reminds me how when I see someone say they are "learning php" I often think in my head that they have just said "I'm memorizing the little bit of PHP used in Wordpress templates".

One thing that made me :ugh: @ my teacher was that he was still using IE. He mentioned firefox and chrome, but stated he liked IE better than the others.

My teachers if a programmer for some company and mentioned he needs to start using ff, that his coworkers do, someone mentioned the difference in how ff and ie display differently and how we do make up for that, and he went off and was talking about fonts and that was it

and then he spent like 10 minutes discussing this cool plugin ff has for coding and he does not know the name and how cool it was and he never used it and wants too

finally I spoke up and asked if he is talking about firebug and he says yes and then goes on to say he guesses it is easy to install and great to use

hardest thing we'll be doing is PHP, which will be a breeze for me. If for some reason he throws in an java EC project or something, i'll let you know. My buddy BOMBED his final and still ended up not passing that class you helped him out with :wtc:....

more web related... no C++ or any of that shit.... mostly design (which i need desperately), php/JS/administration/etc... Really i'm just doing it to get an extra 10K/yr at my next job. Since the school is paying for it, i'm kinda stuck here unless i get another job that'll pay for my shit. If i do live out the next 2 years here (already have 15 months under my belt) i'll be leaving the day after i graduate. I get such an insaine amount of sick/vacation time that when i do leave here, i'll take a month or two off between jobs :wiggle:
