what tattoos do you find tacky, fugly, or unappealing?

i appreciate that people have different tastes, and it's not up to me to judge others', but some tattoos seem to be recurring on the 'i need to get this removed now'-list:

(no offense to those who proudly display any of these...)

    - disney characters like tweety
    - dolphins. often seen jumping out of the water
    - barb wire around your biceps (whether you have any or not)
    - suns or anything around the belly button.

they all strike me as totally unoriginal, probably picked out from some book at a cheap grubby parlor, whilst drunk and on holiday. or maybe it's just me. :hsugh:

Anything that can be found on the walls or in the books of a tattoo shop. Or two people who don't know each other with the same tattoo.

I find almost all tattoos to be fugly, I don't tell the people that of course I say, "wow dude that's awsome where did you get it done?"

I hate color in a tattoo. This guy I used to work with got a big tat on his arm with all sorts of bright colors. I hated the tattoo and the coloring. When that tattoo gets old it LOOKS LIKE SHIT! He tells me it will look good because he will keep up on it and get retouched etc. He was 20 and also permanently stretched his earlobes out with those huge plugs.

Sorry people but these are bad ideas.

Let's see some of your ideas of acceptable tattoos.

Most people who don't have subs will troll around in all the sub-forums.

Tattoos with really small intricate details and colors. They look decent for the first year, but no matter how hard you work to keep it decent, it'll look like crap 10 years from now.

Your own initials. My brother got his initials on his arm, pretty lame IMO.

Basically any tattoo that was gotten in the mindset of "I want a tattoo, what should I get" rather than "that's awesome, I should get a tattoo of that."

ah, i think most tattoos are nice as long as they're somewhat thought through and meaningful to the person. which is not to say tweety and winnie the pooh aren't meaningful to some... i just doubt they spent more than 5 minutes deciding on it, and now have to carry it with them forever.

oooh yes! i met a guy once who had this huge ornamented name covering his upper arm, i thought "wow!", but then it turned out it was his own name.. :eek3: that is just the epitome of narcissism IMHO.

    True.

Acceptable tattoos are, I guess, any tattoo that marks an occasion or important event in life. Lots of tattoos are on people because they like the design, I can feel that but I've thought, and can't think of any design that cool.

I get asked for the 'story' behind my tattoos all the time. I actually do have a bit of a story BUT it's my body, my canvass and I do not have to justify 'why' to anyone. I have said it heaps of times; people who try too hard to give a deep meaning to their tattoos sometimes end up with shit tattoos with silly meanings!

A work mate said to me yesterday "I don't mind tattoos if they are tastefully done and they have some sort of special meaning..."
