When is it ok to use tables? I hate using tables because I was always told that everything should be CSS now. It seems like it depends on the person who answers that question, though. Some older people I talk to still layout their pages using tables (which is extremely stupid and I would never do it). Then some people say that you should never use tables at all, and some others would say it's ok to use, as long as it's not used to layout a page. What is OTs thought's on this? When would you use a table?

when you're presenting data (scientific data, results from something, etc) that the user will not be interacting with.

How about when I'm reading results from a database to show?

edit: just realized you said results from something.

people that say to never use tables have no idea what they are talking and are just saying things they've read about online.

tables have their place, and i think everyone above did a good job describing it.

also though, you can use css to style the table, which can produce some pretty nice results. check out this article if you want some examples: http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/08/13/top-10-css-table-designs
