    Morning,
I booted up my XP SP2 PC today and seemed very sluggish. I checked my running processes and it turns out my SYSTEM process is hoggin up like 50 75% of my CPU usage. This is a different process then the SYSTEM IDLE PROCESS.
I rebooted a few times, and still have the same problem.

Anyone know what the SYSTEM process is and what the issue might be?

My PC is only 2 months old. I did a virus scan, spyware check, and all comes back negative.

    Any suggestions?

Well, for some reason it turned out to be my Lexmark USB printer/scanner/copier. As soon as i unplugged the cable from my pc, the system process went back to normal. Uninstalled then reinstalled the printer drivers and now everything works fine.

It sounds like your print spooler, or else the printer driver itself, was having trouble connecting to the printer. Was the printer turned on and connected at the time?
