A coworker wants to buy a video card for her son's computer because he states the current video card (integrated - no AGP slot) is not supported by Final Fantasy XI.

LOCALLY for a great price she found a: XTASY RADEON 9250 PCI
    Specifications
    • ATI® Radeon® 9250 VPU
    • 240 MHz VPU Core
    • Memory Clock: 400 MHz effective DDR
    • PCI Bus
    • 128MB Graphics DDR Memory
    • Memory Technology: DDR-SDRAM
    • API Support: DirectX® 8.1 (DX 9 Compatible), OpenGL®
    • Connectors: VGA, DVI-I, TV-Out

Any suggestion if this will be good enough for Final Fantasy XI and most other games of this generation?

She does not want to replace the computer, which is a Pentium 4 2.(5 or 6?), 512 megs ram etc.... Mail/Online purchase is also out of the question.

That card's a joke, but yeah I'd say it could handle pretty much any game, with the right settings.

It was meant to stop those who were going to try to suggest that she buy some nvidia junk for twice the price online especially when this person does not have a credit card... (I did mention it was a great price locally)

that card is crap... but you're not gonna find anything better for PCI. My recommendation would be to get a new mobo, keep your cpu and ram, and get an AGP card.

Seriously, why would price be a concern with a card like that? It's like getting a discount on bubble gum or something...

What's this great price, anyway? Don't give people flak for their suggestions if you're asking for help. And what's with the no-online buying thing? If they have a Final Fantasy XI account, they've got a credit card to pay for it. And if you don't want Nvidia junk for half the price, look on NewEgg for an ATI card that suits your needs. It'll probably be better than that 9250.

You did read the good enough and She does not want to replace the computer???

This person did not want to spend any more money than she had to on a machine that was only $400 2 years ago when it was new. To her, and correctly I might add, the machine is disposable and when the time comes it will replace it. But if she can spend $35 to get another year or two out this disposable computer, more power to her. She hopes when this machine does need to be replaced her son will be old enough to waste his own money.

    And before anyone asks
    $89 regular - 50% for open package - $20 rebate. (so $35)

    And my original question was
The credit card issues is the sons problem - lack of forethought... My guess is the father has a credit card...

Find me a 128meg Nvidia or ATI for $15, I will take two.

Sounds like you already have the answer so you don't need us to reaffirm you.
