You might want to consider a A64 Dual Core, it'll do all what your looking for.

Not bad, but I like my soon-to-be-built system better:

COOLER MASTER CM Stacker ATX Full Tower Computer Case
    ASUS A8N-SLI Premium nForce4 motherboard
    eVGA Geforce 7800GT
Hauppauge WinTV PVR 350 PCI Interface Video Recorder, TV/FM Tuner Card
    PC Power & Cooling 510 SLI-PFC ATX12V 510W Power Supply
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Processor
    Corsair XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR400 SDRAM
    Maxtor DiamondMax 10 300GB 7200 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive x2
PLEXTOR PX-716SA/SW 8M Cache SATA DVD Burner
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Sound Card
    Dell 2005FPW LCD Monitor

I'll be sticking with WinXP Pro, though. Oh...and if you'll be doing a lot of video editing, you'll want more hard drive space than just the two Raptors.

I can't get over the generous amount of proof you have provided to back up that claim. WOW!

Never tried to hide it, or anything else. I like Dell products, nor does it being a Dell change the performance out of the system.

So just to re-state here...A Self-Heating Oven is better than a Intel?

To re-state that, a chip with a solid architecture is better than something designed by a four-year-old.

Not that AMD will always be better than Intel, or that AMD is the be all and end all of processors, but they're currently very much in the lead.

I don't agree. I'd take my Pentium M over any single core AMD cpu. As for dual-cores, Pentium D's are great cpus for the price, since they are on average 1/2 the cost of an X2. X2's do kick ass, they are just insanely priced.

When Intel 65nm Presler's reach the market in January, 4MB of l2 :eek3: , they will likely more powerful than the X2s.

Intel p4 EE is VERY much overpriced. I can't see why anyone would pay for that. If you want the most rediculous performance possible, get an AMD X2 system. If you want a system that is still amazingly fast but won't cost 5 grand, get an amd 64 system. Like many previous posts, AMD > Intel for desktop systems right now.
As for dual raptors, thats also kind of a waste. If you really want performance and have more money then god, get dual raptors and set them up in a raid, but grab a new 250 GB SATA WD Caviar drive (the one with 16mb cache) or two for storage. They are more then fast for keeping your MP3's and porn, and you can keep vital stuff (like your OS) on the raptors.

Your Prescott core P4 runs as hot as a fucking nuclear reactor. AMD chips run FAR cooler than Intel. Do your homework before you run your mouth.

hrmm... I'll put my $160 Opteron 146 against ANY Extreme Edition P4 and whoop it's ass in performance, price, benchmarks, and the all important Power Per Watt. the Intel will win a few encoding benchies (because Intel's compilers used in the benchmarks don't allow SSE 2/3 to run on the AMD chip?) but overall the AMD64 will rape it.

Furthermore, self-heating ovens are ALSO better than ovens that don't self-heat.

I'd put my $150 Pentium M 750 against ANY AMD CPU not cooled with water or phase change and whoop its ass in performance, price, benchmarks, and the all important Power Per Watt.

I'd put my $50 chinese built toaster against you guy's cpu toys and get more toast per hour than either one of you, effectively rulling the world with my toaster. :mamoru2:

orly? how about putting it up against an Opteron 170 in an encoding benchmark? Also these benchmarks have to be run in a 64 bit enviroment :big grin:

edit: er wait.. not cooled with air?

Granted, Pentium M is a good chip. However, in a P4EE vs. Athlon64 battle, the Athlon64 definitely comes out on top.
