Hmm no army, sounds like they could be ripe for WMD invasion.

    Swiss Accidentally Invade Liechtenstein

ZURICH, Switzerland (AP) -- What began as a routine training exercise almost ended in an embarrassing diplomatic incident after a company of Swiss soldiers got lost at night and marched into neighboring Liechtenstein.

According to Swiss daily Blick, the 170 infantry soldiers wandered just over a mile across an unmarked border into the tiny principality early Thursday before realizing their mistake and turning back.

A spokesman for the Swiss army confirmed the story but said that there were unlikely to be any serious repercussions for the mistaken invasion.

"We've spoken to the authorities in Liechtenstein and it's not a problem," Daniel Reist told The Associated Press.

Officials in Liechtenstein also played down the incident.

Interior ministry spokesman Markus Amman said nobody in Liechtenstein had even noticed the soldiers, who were carrying assault rifles but no ammunition. "It's not like they stormed over here with attack helicopters or something," he said.

Liechtenstein, which has about 34,000 inhabitants and is slightly smaller than Washington DC, doesn't have an army.

Think the swiss would come bail them out? Then again fighting the swiss might not be too hard, apparently they get lost pretty easily :mamoru:

    I read that today!

At least they were apologetic and called the Liechtenstein government immediately after it happened.
And of course, Liechenstein, with no military, was completely cool with it.

Swiss Soldiers: "How about some fine Swiss watches and some lightly used SIG 550s?"

I was in switzerland last year, their airforce flies f-18 and run excercises non-stop.

Its fucking tits to be hiking in a mountain and stumble across a view of a few hangars built into a mountain and see f-18 taxi out of em

on the other comp, i'll post some tonight

there were a few i couldnt get close enough to to get good photos. The ones i got were a few hangars and a small landing strip in the middle of a mountain village. If you didnt see the planes land, you wouldnt know it was a fighter base :coold:

They do have bomb shelters built into the mountains in every mountain village. I have pictures of one. There is some sort of swiss law that states there must be a place in a bomb shelter for every citizen.

I'm pretty sure they have had explosives on their own bridges and passes since early in the 20th century. Germany knew not to fuck with them during WWII. The explosives are one of the reasons Switzerland hasn't been invaded in forever. That and every one that served gets a 550.

Training exercise, unless they're doing live firing I dont think we usually issue ammo to our troops for training exercises either. National Guard guarding Penn station dont even have mags in their rifles :ugh:
