Video and audio quality is so much better in SVCD format than Divx/Xvid. The only downside is you need a DVD software player to play SVCD.

  2. uuhhhh Windows Media Player can do it too.

He's partially correct - you need a software DVD DECODER installed before windows media player will play it. In most cases, this means install a software DVD PLAYER. :big grin: Of course you could always watch it on your DVD player/TV!

i dont think that "SVCD>Divx/Xvid" meant that quality was always better, just that SVCD is better in general. That i totally agree with, watching burnt movies on dvd player>sitting at PC to watch movies :wiggle:

SVCD is a pretty consistent quality, from what I've seen - Divx can vary depending on the cluefulness of the ripper/encoder - I've got a LOTR-TTT DIvx that looks fucking fantastic, I've also got like Blade 2 on SVCD that's also super nice - if you didn't know otherwise, you'd think it was a DVD. I'll choose SVCD every time, cause I can pop it in my dvd player and watch on my TV. Yeah, I have TV out on my computer, but who wants to fuck around with that? :dunno: Much easier to burn a disc and pop it in.

RCA, but I've been in the middle of a movie and people can't tell the difference and ask what DVD it is.

I'm debating between an XBOX or just building a MM pc just for TV. I have all the equip lying around. Except mini case motherboard, CPU

It will be cheaper to just finish building a PC instead of XBOX

    Ti4200 TV out.
    Hauppauge TV tuner
    5.1 Soundblaster
    Surround sound PC system

And use EMUS for all the old school games.

I'll ask while here.... Anyone know of good wireless PC joysticks? I wish the PC had a working one that works as well as nintendos wavebird.

Ok, guys, if you really think that svcd (mpeg2) has superior picture than xvid (mpeg4) at the same bitrate, I don't know what to say. I find it hard for the MPEG group to even bother with creating mpeg4 if mpeg2 compresses better at the same bitrate.
