So I was thinking about getting an SUV. My max is around $20k. I would like to have 4wd and a v8 with under 40k miles (lower the better obviously).

I don't really know what SUVs have issues and that sort of thing.

What are your thoughts on Jeep Cherokees, Explorers, 4 Runners, Pathfinders, Yukons? Advantages and disadvantages of each...

I just bought a 2008 Explorer. I traded in my 2005 Ranger, I wanted something with more room. Got old only having the front seats. I got the Explorer for $17,000 with 7400 miles on it. Its got the smaller engine 4.0 v6 but thats plenty of power for me.

So far I like it alot, seems to be built very well and good quality. Only had it 2.5 weeks cant do a good review yet.

A quick search found this in my area

17k, low 40,000 miles, 4x4, leather, the works.

    -Cherokees are mall/soccer mom rated
-Ford's v8's are good, but not as good as GM
-Yukon FTW, since it is the same as a tahoe
-I dont know much about the others though they also seem to be soccer mom rated, 4wd or not.

Honestly, while the Tahoe is a nice vehicle, and would be my pick for an SUV, I wouldn't want one. I bought a Crew Cab truck instead and I have to say I don't regret the decision one bit. They're a bit longer than the Tahoe but I find they have WAY more utility.

You might be able to find a GMT800 crew for that kind of money if you look in the right places.

i can personally vouch for the explorers, theyre pretty solid. i had a 04 explorer xlt v8 4wd. 3rd row, tow package, sunroof and some other stuff. the v8 is really nice to have, a lot more get up and go.

i like the 02-05 body styles myself, not much on the new body styles.

edit: not to mention i only paid $15000 for it with 30,000 miles back when suv's were really popular
