well, i recently had surgery to repair a torn pectoral tendon...it completely snapped off the bone 2 inches when i was bench pressing & i had surgery on june 3. i will be in a sling a total of 6 wks, then physical therapy. i was making huge gains & starting to look really good (just about where i wanted to be) & then this happened...now i can tell i have lost a decent amount of size in my upper body. the injury actually happened on may 1st, so i havent done upper body since then..

i can be "fully" back to lifting after 5-6 months.

so im sure i'll lose even more mass ..

how long do you think it'll take to get my size back to where i was? :sadwavey:

not to be a smart ass, but it will take as long as it takes. there's no time frame that someone can give you. It'll come back faster this time around, but no telling if it will be the same, especially since you tore a tendon

on a serious note, dont be a jackass when you bench and try to do more than what you actually can. majority of gym accidents happen when a moron is involved.

damn bro, i wouldn't worry about pressing, I would worry about pulling and rowing so that you don't put yourself at further risk again. Keep hitting legs and up your BCAA intake.

had my leg atrophy to half the size and it came back pretty quickly. the important thing was that I didn't push it hard in until it was well over a year after the surgery.

i wouldn't focus too much on size, it's gonna eat at you while you're recovering. just focus on the therapy and try to get back to the gym as soon as you can. when i tore my rotator cuff it took a while to get back into the swing of things. i'm at 13 months post-op now and i feel great :)

It's not very common AT ALL....usually body builders.

the doctor that performed the surgery said his last one of these he did was a body builder who tore his pec at the Arnold.

this thread makes me nervous. is this injury caused by bad form or is it one of those cross-your-fingers type of injuries?

well it was definitely painful, but the pain from that was overshadowed by the fact that when i jumped up the 205 lbs landed on my big toe & the top half of my toe was just dangling there when i took my socks off...blood covered my shoes. i almost passed out from that. had to get it sewed back on in the ER that night & the toe nail reattached so a new one could grow in properly.

i thought i dislocated my shoulder at first b/c it looked all weird, but i did hear a pop/snap noise...sounded like a dull version of a rubber band snapping. it hurt for sure though.
