what do i need to look for in a decent surge protector?

    i need to get two:
    1. pc and monitor
    2. stereo and tv

i noticed that some advertise a warrenty/insurance againts loss from a surge.

buy an APC surge protector, beefy with lots of outlets

unless you want one of those conditioning units :dunno: APC makes those 2 as does panamax and a bunch of other companies

Get one that is UL listed (nearly all of them I think), and get one that can support the equipment you are attaching to it, and past that it's up to cosmetics and format. Some have a lot of spacing between outlets to allow for power bricks, others have coaxial inputs to protect surges on your cable line. I don't believe a power conditioner will make an audible difference. Personally I like the stuff Belkin makes. APC is nice too, as Ronin said, but more expensive.
