I'm trying to bulk up, so i picked up a big tub of Cytogainer(http://www.gnc.com/sm-cytosport-cyto-gainer-cookies-n-creme--pi-2134224.html) for $30.

It looks big, but it only contains 10 servings! For 30 bucks? Wow, that's sure to put a dent in my pocketbook. :wtc:

Are there any cheaper alternatives? The cytogainer has 54g protein, 3g creatine, and 2g glutamine per serving.

While i'm on the subject, i don't even know what makes a good suppliment for bulking. Is cytogainer even the right choice for me?

Way back in the day when I first started bulking I used Prolab Nlarge 2. Must have went through 10+ tubs of that stuff in my first year or so. It did the trick and I think it was fairly priced.

    Walmart
2 lbs of whey - $10, small tub of creatine $10, glutamine tub (I think a bit cheaper).

All in all you would have all three of those ingredients in much higher quantities for cheaper.

So how necessary are these suppliments, guys? Friends have told me they work great, but the money is an issue. The walmart idea is nice, but aren't there different kinds and qualities of protein/carbs? I'm afraid of buying cheapo supliments and not reaping the benefits i desire. Do i basically get what i pay for?

as others said, use food to bulk. I would definitely recommend protein though. The protein is whey, so you are getting it from a good source and the quantity of g's is good, too.

Word. I am actually [ ] <-- this close to throwing out about 3 lbs of GNC vanilla protein. I inherited it and took it every once in a while and it was tolerable, but I always prefered the chocolate walmart stuff (body fortress I think). I ran out of my tub of the walmart stuff and i've been stuck with the vanilla all week. Shit makes me want to get sick unless it has milk in it.

what is some decent cheap protein, i currently use a 5lbs tub per month, and they want 40 bucks a tub, thats a touch expensive w/ no income at college, whats a cheaper alternative. I'm trying to cut weight so the carb/fat content is relatively important, not necessarily taste.
