All-Star Superman is great if you forget everything you ever knew about Superman.

Geoff Johns is doing great work on Action Comics. You can't go wrong picking up Action and reading....

I disagree, the superman books I've read have been very inspiring. The face of comics has changed. Superheros have become darker, driven by personal gain revenge, guilt or even some sense of debt. However Superman carries on the examples set by the golden age. He still fights for the people, selfless and driven, simply because its the right thing to do. He remains an uncorrupted symbol of justice and morality. In a time when its so easy and so common to do as you want and serve yourself, Superman truly shines.

start with the return of zod storyline (don't know exactly when it started / ended but it was relatively recent)

that should get you ready for the current braniac storyline.

hmm, didn't know writing had a sexual orientation...Still, you have to get some kind of meaning out Supermans books. Maybe not as much as me, but some none the less.

i think green lantern is a shitty character too. only thing i like so far in the dc universe is batman. and kryptonite is the dumbest thing ever. How is it superman needed a guided ship to land on earth but soooooo much of parts of hsi radioactive home planet land here too.

Superman's a pretty boring character. I'd rather watch Dora the Explorer than read a Superman comic that isn't All-Stars.

It's en vogue to hate superman right now. I used to be one of the haters, until I actually started reading Action comics (and the backissues) about 2 months ago.

You've not read Geoff Johns run on Action Comics then. It's the only thing that brought me back into reading Superman. That and the fantastic brilliant art. Seriously, i'm more interested in the art than Johns plots, which says a lot. But then again, that bastard has always been very crafty with the artists he chooses.

I've not given all-star much of a shot really, but i guess i'll have to sometime soon.

I think I'm more of a 60/40 in favor of art, otherwise I would just go read a book

I've never been a big superman fan for some of the reasons mentioned here, but also I think for never having come across a good run featuring the character. What issue did Geoff Johns run start at? Maybe I should give it a shot.

so far allstar superman sounds good, so ill check it out. How about general DC crossovers or stand alone books like redson? Also, is crisis on infinite worlds or 52 worth the read? I allready read infinite crisis

    red son was good.

crisis on infinite earths is good if you understand the whole multiverse thing.

allstar is ok, but I'm just turned off by the silver age / campish plots.
