I've used Adaware, defragged my computer, and used disk cleanup. It's still pretty slow and I don't want to reformat. Can anyone recommend a program to use? I'd like to cut down on my processes. I have 30 running at any given time and am not sure what most of them do.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Kill any unneeded services (services.msc) and stop any unneeded programs from starting when you turn your computer on (msconfig).

    1. Keep Windows up to date.

    2. Always have realtime antivirus going. Do a full system scan once every 3 days.

    3. Run 2 different adware/spyware programs at least once a week. I recommend ad-aware SE and Microsoft AntiSpyware. Both can be found at www.download.com

    4. Defrag your HDD once a month, or if you create, move, delete a lot of folders often then defrag more often as needed.

    5. Take off all useless programs at startup via START > RUN > MSCONFIG

you should run a full scan nightly... not ever 3 days.
