Extremely small venue, lighting will be ok on stage....i'll be able to get up there I think without much difficulty, or just stick with the band. Anyone had much experience with this? I think I can handle most of the technical aspects in terms of camera settings/lenses for the most part...but if anyone has suggestions that would be great.

my main concern is people hitting my camera

I really like to shoot concerts, but sometimes the lighting there isn't always the greatest. Even if you are thinking the light will be ok come prepared, because bad lighting at a concert isn't good. I don't know what kind of band it is, like if they move around or just stand still for the most part so just be prepared. I don't have any pics on this computer but usually when I shoot concerts I get about 5-6 good pictures and the other 115 aren't good at all. Good luck with it though.

if you have a dslr and a 70-200 then you are all set

try to get in front so the lights are behind the artist and you get a really cool looking background, and be ready for arguments iwth other photographers, security people and people attending the concert.

oh yeah and Ive noticed depending on the type ofd concert its a lot easier to shoot..

trance shows security is relaxed as hell and everybody is having a good time

rap concert security makes your job a living hell

rock concerts are mixed bag, some have been real easy on security others ive gotten managers to push me out of the way

Whenever I'm not shooting, I kind of hold my camera above the chest/elbow level of the crowd :hs: Sides are always good because if it's a rock/punk/whatever there's probably going to be a mosh pit in the middle.

I think the show will be fairly popular for this spot, I'm trying to get an in with the band and their record label as a foot in the door for more work...hopefully I can get on the side of the stage- the band is rock and its local to denver but has a pretty large following.

we will see in a week or so :)

Go early. Check out the sound check. Ask someone there to see what the lights/light show will look like. Listen to a few of their songs for important breaks or parts where you think they would step away from mics and allow for better shots. Move around a lot, look for places where the lighting from your angle is nice. Sometimes, its hard to move around when they only give you barrier access for the first 3 songs.

    so what is your question

you will end up getting water, beer, soda, spit, sweat, blood, etc on your camera -- and it will also get hit -- if you shoot enough shows

what kind of rock? depending on how hard the group is depends on how well and easily you will be able to shoot.
