So basically a girl I am interested in persuing is "extremely nervous" around guns. I own a 9mm and a .22lr and am licensed by GA to carry them, and do about 50% of the time I go out. In passing I mentioned while she was visiting we could go to the range which sparked the convo.

She said she has been to a range before and they don't bother her there she claims, but said she doesn't know if she could handle a gun sitting on a kitchen counter. Also that she would feel very uncomfortable if I were to carry it while we were out somewhere together.

Before I kick her to the curb outright, anyone have a good approach to help her over to the right side of things? :x:

take her out and have her shoot a .22 then do something she wants to do afterward.

well according to her, she doesn't mind guns on the range (maybe BS), I guess she doesn't like guns off range perhaps has that propaganda idea guns go off just sitting there by themselves...

give her a gun to carry around her house for a few days. doesn't necessarily have to be loaded, maybe put snap caps in it? but she should practice basic gun safety whenever handling it.. and maybe drop the mag, check the chamber, load and rack it at least one a day. maybe just needs to feel familiar with it on her own

I didn't like man-handling my friends' guns too much outside of the range, but when I got my own I was perfectly fine.

I took my gf to the range the other day and she really liked it, she was nervous but I talked her through how they work and what not before we got there and then we got her started on a .22 rifle and she thought it was cool as hell.

She use to reallllllly not like knives before dating me though, finally I got annoyed at it, pulled my carry knife out of the pocket, opened it, set it on the table, looked at it and said 'Knife, hurt me, move knife, go ahead, cut me' "You see honey, it doesn't do a damn thing by itself, its a tool, nothing more."

Now she will pull the knife out of the pocket when we are together just to look and play with it...

Guns are pretty scary for those who are not used to them. You need to tell her the commandments of firearms safety, take her to the range to shoot, and demonstrate that you ALWAYS handle your guns w/ the up most of safety. I wouldn't dump a girl just because she is nervous around guns... I WOULD dump if she tried to forbid me from carrying one.

The g/f and I have discussed this. We've been together for 2 years, and she's always been scared of guns because she was raise that way. But I insisted on taking her to the range this weekend and she told her mom, who raised her to be scared of guns, and her mom not only approved, but encouraged her and told her she wanted her to be comfortable w/ guns for self-defense.

    :bowdown::bowdown:

She said if she likes it (and she will), she'll probably start getting into it. :x:

Range time, have fun with a .22 Don't bring anything else.
Emphsize safety, be STRICT & disciplined. Show her you're serious about safety and accept no fooling around.

If she remains "extremely nervous" then believe her. Don't force her.

Some people shouldn't be around firearms -- same kind of people that can't drive stick, can't manage to stay their goddamn lane, and drive 20 mph slower than everyone else b/c its "safer".

Their hands probably shake just holding the tv remote too.

She just has to be familiar enough (repeated exposure) to see that it's not evil, and not object to your using/owning/handling firearms, even if she herself doesn't have the skills or inclination to safely do likewise.

That, in itself, is victory enough.

It's much more interesting to ease guns into scared women.
